Discrepancies in temp readings

Hi,
My first two builds both have Asus M4A785M boards and they both show consistently higher CPU temps on the BIOS then whichever performance monitoring software I'm using. IE: Everest, HW monitor, PC Probe, Moo0 etc.
I've done some OCing on stock air on both boards and none of my temps are excessive or erratic just reading higher in the BIOS then on the software (3-5C idle, 5-9C load).

Is this unusual? It seems weird to me because the software is reporting from the same sensors as the BIOS... what gives?

Whatever readings you are getting, trust the BIOS readings over any software you are using.
Best thing you could probably do is to start the pc up and let it run until the temperature normalises, then boot into the bios and record the reading.
Use that reading and add the offset to your software.

As an example, my thuban in bios might read 25C and when I boot into windows, CoreTemp says 15C. I add 10C to the CoreTemps offset, thus getting the more accurate readout.

Make sure you have the latest bios too :).
