Dr Disrespect isn't sure why Twitch suspended/banned him

A hot potato: Dr Disrespect is – or was – one of the biggest streamers around. Three months ago he signed an exclusivity deal with Twitch for a “life-changing” fortune. But now, his account has been wiped squeaky clean and his thirty thousand subscribers have been refunded.

It seems clear enough that he’s been banned, but bizarrely, Twitch won’t confirm this so we’ll optimistically call it a suspension for now. Twitch’s official statement is: “As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”

It's difficult to ignore the timing of his suspension. In the days previous, allegations against a shocking number of streamers came to light and Twitch announced it would start permanently banning streamers for sexual harassment and assault.

Until just recently, Dr Disrespect stayed pretty quiet himself. During the last few minutes of his (final?) stream, he appeared to receive a message and go quiet, before angrily mumbling the following: “I appreciate everyone watching today… we’ll, we’ll get through this Champions Club, uh, it’s yeah… uh, I know it’s a – life’s weird right now… we’ll… we’ll get through this, okay? And, uh… F*%#!”

Admittedly, that’s not an optimist’s farewell.

Dr Disrespects wife, Mrs Assassin, posted a message on her Instagram story shortly after. “The outpouring of love, support, strength and kindness from the arena has been truly overwhelming,” she said. “You all have made my heart full and I can not thank you enough. No one better out there than the CC. You guys are amazing! Much love to you all.”

Tim The Tat Man, one of Dr Disrespect’s friends, said in a tweet that “Twitch’s ban system is kinda all over the place so we will wait and see what happens with Doc… need to wait for an official statement.” As one didn’t come, he went on stream to say that Dr Disrespect himself didn’t seem to know exactly what was going on, and was talking to Twitch to “figure out what happened.”

It seems that Dr Disrespect didn’t get any answers quickly because he tweeted the above a while later. Note that “specific reason” doesn’t preclude him from knowing the approximate reason for his ban – it’s more likely than not an issue with his behavior.

If someone is banned from any service without warning and nobody - fans, enemies, etc. - can think of a reason it might have happened, that's pretty fishy. We're seeing a LOT of stealthy censorship and filtering going on right now in the US because of the BLM mess. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Internet gatekeepers using it as an excuse to settle scores.

My thinking is it is from something pending legal action. From what I've heard it precludes him from streaming anywhere anytime soon? Maybe he violated his contract in a non-compete sense?

There is a rumor floating around he was part of a team conscripting streamers for a new competitor to Twitch which would cause precisely this sort of legal bind.

I know one Twitch streamer got suspended out of blue for 3 days. Few days after Twitch TOS got updated with additional lines. 3 days which eventually lasted several weeks. No answer was given for reason of suspension or why suspension lasted more than 3 days. But he didn't sit around or beg for forgiveness. No, he immediately moved over to YouTube. Not as fancy as Twitch, but all his fans are now there and he's still earning income via donations. And he'll never bother returning to Twitch.

I'm not familiar with the dude but here is my take due to what I've heard. With the ending of mixer the big bucks they threw at him to stay on the platform seemed I'll advised. As his persona regularly breaks the TOS it was a good excuse to claw that money back.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

With all the knee-jerk reactions (justified or not) to accusations (credible, verifiable or otherwise) this does seem to be a major downside to signing an exclusive deal. Even if he's still getting paid for the time being, he's not building and/or maintaining his brand and relationship with his fanbase.

He still has a youtube channel with 1.62million subs I think he will be fine.

And since there is no official word from twitch best to wait and see the outcome of this.

Agreed - it surprises me that so many people appear to legitimately enjoy watching that man-child.

I enjoyed this stream plenty.

He is a pre SJW man so not everyone is going to like this streams which is fine to each his own.

Who is it that he is so important with only 30kmsubscribers that I need to read it about him here? is he a tech guru?
If only you had managed to read the first line of the introduction you would have seen he's one of the biggest streamers. It's not youtube subs, but paying twitch subscribers. 5$ each, he gets around 2 of them, so 60,000$ a month from subs alone. I've never understood why people like whatching his act, but clearly he has an audience.

If a social media or corporate sponsorship can threaten to cut ties with Pew DiePie or even the President of the United States: NO ONE is above the almighty ban hammer.

Big streamers have better partner contracts with Twitch (and he even had an exclusivity deal if I'm not mistaken). He should be getting somewhere between 3 to 4$ for each sub (plus bits and direct donations).

You sign an exclusivity once you've built a fanbase. He is far beyond building a fan base with paying subscribers, so that's been established. The next step is signing a huge multi year deal, and he did that.

He did everything in the right order, that's why the dude is popular and wealthy.

Don't forget if Twitch broke his Contract for an unproven allegation that can't be proven in court, he can sue them for breach of contract, Twitch would be in the hole for millions

Who the hell gives about twitch streamers.. This is techspot.. Cmn guys -. -
