Dumb stuff people do on their computers

My dad pulled the CPU out of it's slot and didn't pull the pull up. Then the pins were bown. But it still works good
We bown the pins straight again :haha:

The Slow Computer cause of Windows XP on 256mb of ram, is my system only Im worse cause Im stuck with a 64mb integrated video card reducing me to 192mb >_<

Now before you call me an ***** its not my choice, this computer is a piece of junk and my dad wouldnt buy me anything better, and hey it was either this or No computer at all at that time, Good news is Im getting a job so I can correct this problem and finally build a computer with good specs that dosent lock up every 3 seconds cause of low ram

this is kind of a joke thread......

we realize there are poor and raggies in need of financial aid....

I had this old bloke up the road saying his PC wouldn't turn on sometimes, and it took 5 or 6 tries to get it going.

I took it home, gave it a going over, it worked fine.

Next day he rings up, saying it's doing it again....

I go up there and get him to turn it on while I watch... Flash goes the screen, then off... He's holding the bloody button in for about 5 seconds, so it's on, then off...

My Admittance

Hey I owned a Packard bell , Now my nephew has it,

I have a Dell.....

I Bought a PC many years ago, My first decent one , 466 Celeron 64 meg memory, and voodoo 3 video card.

I decided after about 2 months to investigate the inside of the box...

I powered it down made a note of the parts inside, location etc , then stripped it down,

My first foray into the workings of a PC and how they go together,

Except I forgot to replace the screw that held the graphics card in,

Needless to say as I powered it on and moved the box back into place at the side of the desk I nudged the Monitor cable and pulled the card out of place,

Realising very quickly that the blank black screen on the monitor wasn't very good I quickly powered the PC down.

I replaced the card, put in the screw, and powered the machine on.

BEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP BEEEEEEEPPPPP.

To say I panicked was an understatement.

I had to take it back to the man who had built it and swear blind I hadn't done anything (honest).

Fortunately the board was in warranty so he swapped it over and seemed none the wiser.

If the guy who built it is reading this, I'm really sorry I lied.

But it was a lesson learned.

I have 2 dell's, but only because i was given them!!

A friend had a packard bell, he found a good use for it, he used to hold the door open while he fitted a proper pc up.

We're getting off topic here.

The thread is: dumb things people do on their computers......

not a discussion about dells or packard bells.... (although owning one is dumb because they use proprietary hardware.)

add (today)

I use bit torrent, limewire, etc... (P2P type programs) and I can't understand why my system doesn't work.

Use the coffee cup holder for cd's & dvdv's
People thinking the monitor "IS NOT" a two way mirror.
I need more memory, what kind? I dunno I don't remember.

Heres something dumb i did on my pc...

I use the internet a lot more often(i have dsl i can use whenever) and I downloaded many files for this game with unupdated av software, and i beleive i downloaded some kind of hoax, because I keep getting a message window about something called 'winfixer' and it kept bothering me. It got so annoying and i wanted it to go away, so I clicked 'ok' and downloaded winfixer. I think winfixer was a trojan or virus and I got the virus and my system crashed and i had to repair it with eMachines restore disk(my computer is an eMachine).

Silly thing for me to do...lol :knock: on my head

I tried to overclock my computer. I heard you can just put everything to max in BIOS, and if it doesn't work, change it back. Whats this Vcore?

(Hypothetical situation)

"I had AOL awhile ago, now I’m using Comcast and yet for some reason, AOL won’t work anymore."
“I tried to put my Geforce 7800GT into my Dimension E310 but it didn’t fit!”
- Both something my friend said to me, I felt like hitting him.

By the way, nice SOcRatEs! So simple and short it was hilarious, hahaha.

Putting an HDD in an other computer works, as long as it's not an NT OS. It will just detect the other hardware and work. I've done this a couple of times with WinNT.

I pluged in my second harddrive when the computer was on. Why doesn't it work anymore?

That works BTW.

I've already pulled off ISA cards with the computer on if I remember correctly. I think it didn't even freeze.

BUT I'VE NEVER USED MY SOLDERING IRON INTO A POWERED ON TUBE AMPLIFIER (I know someone that did on an other forum, just some 350-450V in there)

Here are hours of reading for all of you that don't know this page, which is almost impossible, I found it before the existance of Google.

Sigh! I'm 16 minus 8 days and I feel old. When I was young, there were no reality shows, no digital TV, no DVD, no one knew what the Internet was, we still had turntables in our sound system, we ran Windows 3.1 on 256 colors and DOS, people had black and white printers, I was playing Super Mario Bros, SB16 was a good sound card, no one had discmans, gas was cheap... Where is this world going!

What I ment was that the computer was on then I plug in my hdd and the computer turns off and no go for the hdd.

lmfao

Names that my customers have used to describe their PC to me. Meaning the primary "box" or "tower":

my cpu

my modem

my drive

my pcu

the brains

the square part

the big piece

the operating system

Can't think of any more at this time.
One time I found a ring jammed in a floppy drive. I found a floppy jammed in a CD-ROM, I found a CD jammed in between the cracks of the front face plates.

I recently had a lady with a near brand new HP, was going to bring it in the store, but she didn't realize the video cable screwed into the back of the tower, she yanked and yanked until the video port ripped out of the motherboard! Come to think of it, that's the third customer to rip their video port out. lol
