A hot potato: One of the many titles announced at last week’s Game Awards was Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade for the PC. Square Enix has now revealed the game’s system requirements, which are pretty undemanding, but what could put off many users is its price: $70, the same as the PS5 version.

We first heard about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade at Sony’s State of Play earlier this year. The game is the PS5’s enhanced version of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which includes a photo mode and the Intermission DLC featuring Yuffie Kisaragi.

PC players can enjoy 4K resolution and HDR support, XInput- and DirectInput-compliant controller support, keyboard and mouse support, and a framerate of up to 120 frames per second on powerful rigs.

In addition to containing the same graphical enhancements and content as the PlayStation 5 version, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade’s PC incarnation brings with it a less-welcome element: the price. The RPG will cost $70 when it launches on the Epic Games Store this Thursday (December 16).

Square Enix has also released the PC system specs, which are a lot easier to swallow than the price—apart from the 100GB of required storage space, though that sort of chunk is becoming increasingly common these days.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade minimum system requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64 bit (version 2004 or later)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-3330 / AMD FX-8350
  • Memory: 8 GB
  • Storage: 100 GB
  • DirectX: Version 12 or later
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 780 / Radeon RX 480 (3GB VRAM)

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade recommended system requirements

  • Assuming a resolution of 2560x1440 (Max: 3840x2160)
  • OS: Windows 10 64 bit (version 2004 or later)
  • Processor: IntelCore i7-3770 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100
  • Memory: 12 GB
  • Storage: 100 GB
  • DirectX: Version 12 or later
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 1080 / Radeon RX 5700 (8GB VRAM)

Not surprisingly, seeing a PC game with the same $70 price tag as its PS5 counterpart has brought plenty of anger from the community, but it’s something we might have to get used to. Another Square Enix title shown off at The Game Awards, Forspoken, is available to pre-purchase on Steam for $70 ($94.99 for the Digital Deluxe bundle).

If this does become the norm for AAA releases, expect it to push more people onto subscription services like Microsoft’s newly renamed PC Game Pass—or piracy. Unless, that is, you share the same view as Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar/2K parent Take-Two Interactive, who believes we're "ready" for games to become more expensive.

LMAO that Forspoken looks like it was made for PS3 gen... and they are asking 79,99€ for that game :D

I don't quite understand, it's a AAA title with up-to-date graphics, why would it cost anything less than the AAA price? Because you personally played it with a fraction of the fidelity 20-something years ago?

If you think games are getting expensive, look up inflation. It's getting old, and it's just not true.

The same applies to other AAA games isn't it? And yet, we see that Square Enix tends to be the lone company that likes to release games at high prices and maintain those games at high prices, from what I observed in recent years. FF7 is a great game, and I had a great time playing and replaying it in the past. But considering this is mostly a graphical makeover, with story lines and music that are recycled, I generally don't feel that it is worth paying like it is a new game.

The price is fine. It's always funny watching children complain about prices, but I'll be the petulant one and stomp my feet over the Epic store. Square is all over the place where and how it releases it games. It's really weird, and there's not a chance I buy this on the Epic store when I have every other FF game through Steam.

I see a $19.99 price point come steam summer sale 2022 when no one buys this game at launch

I found it more enjoyable to watch people play the game on twitch (or youtube) than playing them myself. Esp. story base RPG. I could have full control on place and time to enjoy the content. Its also more fun watching with others. The atmosphere is just different.

As a long term FF7 fan I’ve been waiting for this to arrive on PC. But for £70, il pass. I don’t have any anger about the price, I have no sense of entitlement to any game, it’s a luxury product that I don’t need and the developers can charge what they want. £70 is in line with inflation but it’s also more than I have ever paid for a game. Most new PC releases are £50 so it is a bit above the average.

I’m sure itl be on sale for less than £50 soon enough, if not on Epic then one of the key marketplaces will likely have it. I’ve waited a while already, I can wait a bit longer.

But it’s good to see the PlayStation exclusives coming to PC. I don’t suffer from a lack of IQ and am more than capable is using more than one launcher on my PC so I have no issues with them being Epic exclusives. Another PS exclusive to go to Epic was Kena: Bridge of spirits and it is surprisingly good.

I knew if I kept my 3770k long enough it would be back on top!

But I dont get the griping on the price, it's a top tier game of a new gen and its a FF title, sorta makes sense.

also, if 70 is the new normal price then it would make sense after all the damning news about game companies not paying their workers enough and other things, I guess after all these years of gamers getting these multi-million dollar games from the tears and pain of broken devs may finally be at an end and its time to pay up.

I guess its just free to play garbage or break a benjamin in the future.

How funny, this is essentially how I experienced the original FF7, watching a friend of mine make her way through the game as she knew what she was doing. I tried it and was all thumbs, it was far more enjoyable watching someone competent do it.

You'd be surprised. Squeenix still hasn't dropped the price of the unpatched Nier: Automata (despite disappointing sales on PC).

A five-year-old game, but they don't care! You'll be lucky to see something this Sacred from the Squeenix Library of games to take less than ten years to drop to $40!
