Benedict Evans is a long-time mobile tech analyst who joined the Andreessen Horowitz ranks a few years ago. Not unlike Mary Meeker's annual Internet Trends report, Evans' latest revision of the presentation "Mobile is eating the world" is chock full of insight on where the tech industry stands today and where it is headed in the next 5 to 20 years.

The preface hits you with a simple fact, there are over 2 billion smartphones in use today and we are headed to double that in a matter of years. So it's no longer a question of adoption or the war of the platforms, but how this massive adoption and commoditization will translate into tech's next big thing. You'll learn about 'GAFA' (Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon) and how huge and influential they are compared to what we used to think of as the tech industry monsters of the 90s (Microsoft + Intel).

You may not agree with every prediction of where things are headed, but this certainly gives you great perspective of industry trends seen from the eyes of tech investors.

Google CEO, Sundar Pichai made a bold prediction earlier this year when he stated we are moving from a mobile-first to an AI-first world. The presentation dedicates several slides to expand on that notion, how machine learning is already showing signs of frictionless computing (Amazon Echo) and how those breakthroughs are set to shape the future of various industries like retail, ecommerce, and cars.

A video version of the same slide deck with voice-over commentary from Ben Evans is below.
