Gears of War 4 Benchmarked: Graphics & CPU Performance Tested

Does anybody knows why AMD's first Generation GCN GPUs are behind Nvidia Kepler GPUs (7950<760 - 7970GHz<680) in this new DX12 title? wasn't AMD GPUs supposed to be More future proof compare to Nvidia?

Because this is a garbage port like the rest of the recent XBOX games (Maybe besides Tombraider, but that had a ton of bugs at launch).

Don't worry, AMD and Nvidia will patch this game since the people who made it can't be bothered to do their jobs well.

Thanks, Steven. Very thorough analysis. Happy to hear you are going to investigate the CPU scaling results more. Can't think of another time where core i7s and core i5s were in such distinct fps groupings. Fallout 4 showed a little advantage in the core i7s when compared to core i5s at the same clock, suggesting some added benefit of four extra logical cores, but nothing like this. Looking at the results for the i7-4770K and i7-3770K both at 3.5 GHz compared to the i5-4690K also at 3.5 GHz, and seeing such a huge difference is extremely surprising. Again, that's just not been exhibited before in your CPU scaling tests over the years. Sure, the best and fastest clocked i7 usually takes the top spot, but the extreme grouping that seems to be based solely on the four extra logical cores is a novel outcome. At least from what I can remember.

It shouldn't matter, but I would be very curious to see if benchmarking an actual section of real gameplay (not using built-in tool) would yield the same results.

Also, because the Titan X, Fury X, 980ti, and 1070 are all very powerful cards for 1080p resolution, it would be helpful to see if the same distinction between i7s and i5s happens when they are paired with a 1060 or RX 480 at 1080p.

Good luck. Very interested to see more.

A far more important issue than anything in this overly detailed article are the massive issues people are facing with the gawd-awful Microsoft Store. Downloading this 70gb (insane size, wow) title isn't working for many customers. Not only is the download speed itself throttled and crappy, from the store itself, it's plagued with bugs forcing people to have to try to re-download or worse, just continually downloading and never completing.

I've read tons of threads about this on many pages and nothing seems to really fix the issue. I've had my code for over a week now with zero luck. What a disaster.

It seems like the worst kind of journalism to focus on *****ic e-peen benchmarking without at least mentioning this sizable issue. SMH #epicfailMicrosoft

The MS stores downloading issues are beyond the scope of this article. These types of benchmarks are anything but *****ic. They allow granular analyzation which lots of people find extremely helpful when deciding to purchase a game.

Your comment is akin to car and driver reviewing a car, and you getting mad because the author didn't mention the local dealership had troubles with inventory.

The UE4 is more Nvidia friendly and has been the case for many years too.

When I redeemed my game code, it didn't work at first but as soon as I tried again it went through, downloading wasn't really an issue as I have 1 Gbps Fiber connection but the download speed kept fluctuating every few secs which was really odd. I haven't had the chance to play the game yet but the quick benchmark played just fine. Hope you got your game to work by now.

Thanks, I finally DID get it working but going to my cousin's house and using his far faster internet. On a slower connection it just dropped out and timed out way too many times. You'd think a simple download manager would address that issue but MS doesn't seem to have the technical wherewithal to use one.

So I was just going to order 1060 3gb until I stumbled upon this review.

Leaves me puzzled.
I mean, I'm perfectly okay with 1080p gaming and decent fps, I maybe don't even need 'ultra' settings.

What about 1050ti? Will I, ironically, get better texture quality with this card than with 1060\3?
I know the card is like 30% slower and the price gap is super-small, which makes it no-brainer to get 1060... until you learn about this texture issue.
1050ti also has great TDP.

PS: If someone would ask me why I'm not going with RX 470 4gb (the same price here as 1060) - again, higher power draw (I have psu of 450Watts).

Lol the 450W PSU will drive the RX470 with no problems. Here's a few system power consumption benchmarks under load;

And here's an example of the GTX 1060 using more power due to it being OC'd...;

If you want to compare it to the GTX 1060 on average, yes, it's about 50 W more, but it's not nowhere near your PSU's limit... You would be at least 100W below what your power supply should be able to handle, with an RX 470.

Dude the 470 uses like 120w lol. The SAME as the 1060. If you undervolt or use Radeon Chill (or both!) it can use as little energy as the 1050 Ti.
