Roughly two months after spending a reported $1 billion to acquire Waze, Google has begun incorporating some of its community-driven functionality into its own mapping application. google maps ios android waze Specifically, when Waze users report road incidents that may cause traffic delays, they will now show up on the Google Maps apps for the iPhone and Android devices as well. These incidents include accidents, construction, road closures and more.

Real-time traffic information is one of Waze's biggest draws as it helps users avoid jams by finding alternate routes based on current conditions. Maps users in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, UK and the US will initially have access to this data, with more regions rolling out later.

For now reporting incidents will remain exclusive to Waze users, however.

"No one likes getting stuck in traffic," Google Maps vice president Brian McClendon wrote in a blog post. "That's why the Waze and Google Maps teams are working together to harness the power of Google technology and the passion of the Waze community to make it easier to navigate your daily life."

Waze’s own apps are getting some updates as well. Google is adding Google Search to Waze's list of providers, giving users more search results, while the Waze Map Editor now has access to the Internet giant’s vast Street View and satellite imagery to help people create more accurate maps.
