GTA fans are in for a treat today, Rockstar has now released the classic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for iOS, after saying it would do so last month. This marks the first mobile platform the game is available on, and Rockstar says it will land on Android and Windows Phone next week.

Originally released in 2004 for Sony's PlayStation 2, the iOS version of the game is not a simple port, Rockstar has visually enhanced the open-world 90's crime game along with a number of other improvements. Expect to see updated car and character models along with a greater draw distance as well much more detailed shadows and lighting.

Additionally, the gameplay has also been tweaked to accommodate the mobile environment. You'll find two different control schemes for driving and on-foot as well as more frequent checkpoints.

"Rockstar Games brings its biggest release to mobile yet with a vast open-world covering the state of San Andreas and its three major cities – Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas – with enhanced visual fidelity and over 70 hours of gameplay."

San Andreas now joins other GTA titles that have already made it to mobile like Chinatown Wars, Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is available now for $7 on the App Store. It is compatible with iPhone 4s and newer, iPad 2 and newer, and the 5th generation iPod touch. It also supports iOS 7 MFI game controllers.

Great way to make money, Great way to make folk think they are getting a deal, Great way to get free press...No way to play that game..on a pad.

3.5 stars for GTA III on Android
3.7 for Vice City

Nuff said.
What does Nuff said mean?

And that's outta how many stars?

5 which is solid, however many are reporting issues with 3 and Vice City, people complaining about horrid optimization and terrible controller support. Unless they get polished, it's waste of money (although it's not exactly expensive).

Looking forward to play this though, hopefully it will play nicely even though I have no controller (damn gotta get one! :p)

I have GTA3 on Android and can play it with a PS3 controller no problems.

Otherwise, I'm impressed that the mobile target market device has a higher power than PS2, while remaining battery-optimised!

For those who didn't understand the user's use of slang:

Nuff said implies "enough said".

'Outta' implies "Out of".

Looking forward to this. Since I can use my PS3 dual shock controller on my Sony Xperia Z, GTA III and Vice City got five stars from me. Just another perk of being a "Sony fan boy".
