Help with CD drive

I was trying to write some .doc files to a CD-RW today and every time I inserted the disk my computer spit it back out again. I then tried a CD-R and it worked and I wrote the files to the disk but now when I put the CD-R disk with my file on it back in, my computer spits it out like it did to the CD-RW. I have a Studio 17 laptop just got it in June with these specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo processor
4 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
WDC WD5000BEVT-75ZATO ATA Device (which i believe is the CD/DVD drive

Any help is appreciated!

I lied haha my CD/DVD drive is a
HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GA10N ATA Device

It's time to have the CD/DVD drive replaced... you can try removing the drive in the device manager and let Windows reinstall it

Since its a laptop drive (I believe Dell possibly?)
Then you can just purchase a n external DVD R/W Drive to plug into one of your USB connections
