Here's a pre-alpha look at the upcoming System Shock remake

Night Dive Studios revealed in November that it was working on a remake of System Shock, the classic first-person action role-playing game that debuted way back in 1994. System Shock 1 Remastered isn't scheduled to ship until sometime in 2017 but the developer didn't want to keep fans in the dark any longer than necessary.

That's why Night Dive recently published a two-minute teaser video which shows off some of the early scenes in the Unity-built modern remake.

Night Dive founder Stephen Kick told Polygon in a recent interview that they kind of shifted the tone from the original game of a horror adventure to more of a horror experience. Technical limitations of the era kept System Shock from fully achieving its tone of total alienation but with modern technology, that's no longer the case.

The remake will change up some of the game's formula but is maintaining the original story. For example, the classic chiptune soundtrack is being changed to something that's more subtle and they're remaking the user interface so that it's more user-friendly.

Ironically enough, the remake is drawing inspiration from games like Dead Space and BioShock – both of which were influenced by the original System Shock. Then again, one of BioShock's lead creators, Ken Levine, also worked on System Shock 2 which dropped in 1999.

I'm sure they picked Unity for cost related reasons, but still... I don't know any big Unity game that doesn't have performance related problems.
Hopefully they will upgrade to the new Unity engine that is set to come out soon. It should help with performance.
 
They're using Unity. Oh cr*p. That usually means combining the visuals of 2007-era Unreal Engine 2 games with performance of 2-5fps on 4x SLI'd GTX 980 Ti's...

You may find a jump in FPS using just the one card. Old stuff on SLI / Crossfire usually just cries and dies.
