Here's your first look at the PlayStation 5 hardware design

As long as it has the power Sony has been claiming is what I care about. Which means no more crappy ports for pc. No more 30 fps nonsense.
If it cant fix the fps n loading isssues that has always plagued consoles then to me its a fail. So these new consoles better start evolving cause the price is going up but we have yet to see better quaility, now is there time to really shine.

Oh wait, you're being serious, let me laugh even harder

Seriously, you think that consoles will magically abandon 30 FPS because of more powerful hardware? Is this your first console generation?

First, if you trust ANY promise they make, you are a damn fool. The gaming industry is built on lies and falsities. Second, higher FPS simply isnt important to the console market. The push has consistently been towards better graphics and higher resolutions. People made a big deal about 60 FPS with the launch of the PS4 and the xbox one x, and neither's game library consistently ran at 60, 99% of games are locked to 30 and many run slower then that in intensive scenes.

I like it, yeah a bit router-ish, but then the XB1X1 or whatever looks like a black dustbin, so it could have been worse.

For me, the trigger point will be when 1) GTA6 and GT7 are both released and 2) when the price drops below $399, so probably sometime 2022.

If it's only $50 for a version that can play 4k Blu-ray then there's no way people will choose the disk-less version. Heck even a $100 difference won't be worth it.

Why? I don't ever watch or use Blu-rays. I stream from my computer, Netflix, Hulu or Prime Video.

I guess each to his own then. Blu-ray video / audio quality is still much better than streaming, and secondly it doesn't require internet connection to play. Also not every latest movies / shows are available on streaming services, I think there's at least one year wait. I'm one of those who would not go to the cinema but instead wait for Blu-ray releases as I have a killer home theater setup at home.

I play on PC. I only care for the sake of crappy ports. The better the console the better the port. Which is what I'm hoping for. If it doesnt happen then it'll be just another failure. We will see.

Fits in a boys room.
But in the living room? Noooo....
Electronics should be discrete and not draw attention to themselves. To fit in most places.
This is a cool design, I'll give them that. But unless I can't hide it, it won't be in my living room.

My first reaction on seeing it was simply that Microsoft are really going to be kicking themselves for their lacklustre design now.

Seeing the whole trailer, I got the vibe that they were hinting at some kind of alien mesh or life form / cell form; fluidity and complexity. Then they revealed the console which I was surprised they did, and I was like, oh, they made it look a bit alien-ish indeed. I found it funny how they made the two antennas stick out. It does look cool, and people who prefer extra percent of power, would pick the box anyway. Ratchet and clank was pretty awesome and next gen looking with all those physics and fast switching of entire worlds in a blink of a second. That's the power of next gen, seeing games that weren't like before.

yeah Nah, ill stick with my PC and torrent all the ps5 exclusives 1 year after its released then use that freed up money not spent on games to go on a holiday. arrivederci
I wont torrent the games but consoles gave up cheat devices long ago and PC has trainers, how else would I beat so many games every year and also give them all that replay value cause of it.

PC freedom makes it worth the entry price

Could care what it looks like as long as it's cooled properly and doesn't sound like a Jet when playing demanding games. From what Mark Cerny said, the PS5 has been designed for the max wattage constantly so in theory it should stay cool for the life of the console whilst the PS4 has had more and more games max it's cooling solution out as I imagine during the design phase they didn't have titles that would pull the max power the system could output at the time.

I do like the design, EXCEPT (and that’s a big ‘except’ - SWIDT) it didn’t appear to allow for horizontal orientation. I could be wrong. Maybe there are rubber feet on one side but they weren’t apparent. Packaged separately in the box for those who don’t care to mar the pristine white siding? Who knows?
Agreed. If it can't go horizontal it won't fit under the TV and that limits where it can be put and still kept safe.
From reading more recent articles, others have been asking the same question. And it appears it can be, using the same stand placed in the centre so it looks to me like it's floating but I wonder will it wobble much, especially when inserting a disc.

It looks like the base piece (keeping it vertical) can also be used to have it horizontal.

Which, the simplistic side of me doesn't like at all.

2020 - when Female protagonists TOOK OVER GAMING.
Every single trailer looked like an interactive Disney film with a female lead role.
Who cares? That Kena: Bridge of Spirits game looks amazing.

Half of JRPG protagonists are so skinny and androgynous anyways that they might as well be women. And if the female protagonists are badass like Aloy in Horizon or Mulan (to continue your Disney vibe), then bring it on. Personally, I hope CD Projekt RED does a Witcher sequel with Ciri as the protagonist in a post-Wild Hunt world.

"2020 - when Female protagonists TOOK OVER GAMING."

For gaming I find this to be for a reason. In movies, though, sometimes they make the women feel entitled and selfish, but in games, the reason they do it is because the gamer is getting attached to the character and the story. I think gamers get more attached to a female character than to a male one, usually they pick a male character to create an virtual avatar that represents himself, so you can/could be attached to yourself less, I guess, if we take this idea.

And I thought the PS3 design was pushing it, looks like they just thru the case design together at the last minute. You can tell by the location of the disk drive...

Fitting for a kids room tho, will definitely have to hide that in a cabinet in my living room.

I think it's some sort of attempt to make games appeal to the uncaptured female audience's dollar.

As it stands disks are a dying breed and for good reason. People will definitely buy the disk-less version, especially in Europe.

The design isn’t there to be new and fresh - it’s to hide how ridiculously big this thing is. Has no journalist noticed this?

Do an optical drive comparison with past generations - there’s a few premade images floating around. It’s managed to be 2/3 as thick as the Series X while being 15% taller than the PS3. This thing is HUGE, and looking at the vent gap it’s going to be noisy, too.

For those saying MS is kicking themselves - looks like they made the right move. Their console is now looking to be smaller, quieter AND more reliable. Money is on Sony to have an RROD this generation.

The console was shown vertical but I guess most missed it horizontal. They showed it laying on its side was breif but they did show it. Also for vertical, it was on a stand. Not sure if ppl noticed or even realized that. I bet it doesnt come with that.
