HJT help needed!

argh. Again.. I cannot find Mcafee listed in the add/remove programs.
I'm not sure where to go to uninstall the firewall program.

Hmm, I haven't seen any sign of Trend popping up either...
Just rechecked.. I supposedly have NO virus scanners at the moment (according to Windows) and can't find Trend
on my programs list...

In add remove programmes it may be listed as mcafee.com or simply as personal firewall

No listings for Mcaffe at all.. none for personal firewall or just firewall.

I'm thinking a sledgehammer might fix it all.

No problem, don`t worry, I`m going to try and disable your McAfee firewall.

Click start/run and type services.msc into the run box and press the enter key.

When the window appears, maximise it. Double click on the following services(if there) and select stop if they are running. Set the startup type to disabled. Click apply/ok for each service you disable.

McAfee Personal Firewall Service

Close the services window.

Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.

Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

MPfTray.exe
MPFService.exe

Close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MPFExe] C:\Program Files\mcafee.com\personal firewall\MPfTray.exe

O23 - Service: McAfee Personal Firewall Service (MpfService) - McAfee Corporation - C:\Program Files\mcafee.com\personal firewall\MPFService.exe

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Reboot your system and post a fresh HJT log. Let me know if your problems are any better.

Regards Howard :)

Ok.. hopefully that has it disabled!

Saying thank you is getting old.. So I'll say you have my greatest appreciation. :D

It`s looking much better.

Let`s get rid of some more crap.

Run HJT with no other programmes open. Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AOLSPScheduler] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1121065886\ee\services\sscAntiSpywarePlugin\ver1_10_3_1\AOLSP Scheduler.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sscRun] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1121065886\ee\services\sscFirewallPlugin\ver1_10_3_1\SSCRun.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPHSend] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\IPHSend\IPHSend.exe

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Reboot your computer.

As far as I`m concerned, that`s it.

Please let me know how your system is running.

Finshed with the last set of instructions. Still no connections for secure websites, Firefox, Yahoo Messenger, and my cd drive is still odd.

Everything is definitely running much smoother, and faster.

I cannot find anything on Trend though, and Windows is warning me I have no virus scanner. I cannot find Trend on a program list either.
I'm not sure what to think there.. I know we downloaded it as one of the ones we were trying when we could get nothing to download or update.
I assume you can see we have it since we worked around it.. but I can't find anything that would be like a program to let me scan... or that shows up at all.

But then, I'm exhausted.. I've been at this most of the day. Time for a break and bed!!

Thank you!

That`s very odd.

Please post a fresh HJT log.

I spent a lot of time last night looking into my problems and it seems it's fairly common. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any advice on how to combat it. I searched for "Can't access secure web sites" and came up with lots of pages, including one here at TechSpot. (although no one mentions the cd drive problem) Lots of mentions about "winsockxpfix" as the cure to this exact problem, but we ran it to no avail.
I'll look more today, perhaps I was too tired to be doing that!

I did get rid of the Real Player issue just by removing it from start up.. so my system boots nicely with no warnings (other than a "no anti virus program found")

Here is the HJT. Thanks!

Your HJT log is still clean.

I don`t know why Windows is warning you that you have no antivirus, when plainly you have.

May I suggest you reinstall Trend.

Your CD problem is probably unrelated and might be caused by a faulty cd or maybe a faulty cd drive. Is it ok with other cd`s?

As to your secure website problem, take a look at this thread HERE. Hopefully it`s not the thread you`ve already looked at.

Please let me know the results if any.

I can't find the Trend program anywhere either.. I can't run a scan it seems.
The only one I found that seemed to be working for me was the Antivir PE.
Maybe I should go back to that? (IF I can uninstall Trend, which I bet I can't)

The cd drive stopped working at the exact same time as the connection issues.. For one game, it can't find the .exe file.. and for other cd's, it asks
which program I want to open it with. It recognizes what cd is in the drive, so I don't know what's up.

And.. unfortunately, that is the exact thread I found on Techspot. sigh...

I was looking at Device Manager (in regards to the cd drive) and found a yellow exclamation point on the "Wan Miniport (IP)- Trend Micro common Firewall Miniport"
It says Windows cannot load the device driver or that the driver may be corrupted.

I have no clue if this is pertinent...

Also, the firewall that windows lists as "On" is Windows firewall..

I'm so close to giving up here. yikes.

Download the following programmes.AVG free and Zonealarm firewall.

Disconnect from the net and uninstall Trend. Once it`s gone, reboot your computer and install Zonealarm, followed by AVG. reboot your computer the required number of times and reconnect to the net. Run the AVG updates.

Let me know the outcome please.

Just as I feared.. Trend will not uninstall. The "Remove" button acts as an installer and then says the installer is not available.

Ok, lets see if we can stop it from running at all.

Download the Free AVG and Zonealarm programmes as above and disconnect from the net.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how here.> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html

Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how here.> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how here.> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html

Click start/run and type services.msc into the run box and press the enter key.

When the window appears, maximise it. Double click on the following services(if there) and select stop if they are running. Set the startup type to disabled. Click apply/ok for each service you disable.

Trend Micro Proxy Service
Trend Micro Personal Firewall
Trend Micro Real-time Service
Trend Micro Protection Against Spyware
Trend Micro Central Control Component

Close the services window.

Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.

Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

tmproxy.exe
TmPfw.exe
Tmntsrv.exe
PcScnSrv.exe
PcCtlCom.exe
pccguide.exe
TMAS_OEMon.exe

Close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pccguide.exe] "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 2007\pccguide.exe"

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [OE] "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 2007\TMAS_OE\TMAS_OEMon.exe"

O23 - Service: Trend Micro Central Control Component (PcCtlCom) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\PcCtlCom.exe (file missing)

O23 - Service: Trend Micro Protection Against Spyware (PcScnSrv) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\PcScnSrv.exe (file missing)

O23 - Service: Trend Micro Proxy Service (tmproxy) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\tmproxy.exe (file missing)

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or directories(if there).

C:\Program Files\Trend Micro

Reboot into normal mode, turn system restore back on and rehide your protected OS files.

Install Zonealarm, followed by AVG free and reboot your computer the required number of times.

Reconnect to the net and run the AVG updates.

Post a fresh HJT log and let me know the outcome.

Ok, done with the above instructions. I now have AVG and it is actually running (YAY) BUT.. it will not update. It says no connection is available for updating.
I just can't seem to get past that. No secure web sites, no virus updates.

Take a look HERE and see if that helps.

Post a fresh HJT log please.

Regards Howard :)

Well I guess that's good. Everything seems to run faster and better..
but my original issues are all still there.

Thank you Howard, you've been great!

I`m so sorry I haven`t been able to fix your problem.

Maybe you should try running a Windows repair as per this thread HERE.

If that doesn`t help, then maybe it`s time to think about backing up your important data and reformatting and reinstalling from scratch.

Please let me know the outcome.
