How can I connect a 4 pin fan to a 3 pin connector?

So, I've got a SONY VaioBook from 2012, my laptop fan is pretty much broken and doesn't work, I've replaced the thermal paste so I can atleast use this without instantly overheating. I've got a spare fan from a laptop but I want to fit that fan to this one and this has a 3 pin connector and the fan I want to connect is a 4 pin one! Please help cuz I don't want to spend any money cuz you know I am a teenager and I don't have any money to spend ;(

As long as the pins are the same, yes you can connect a four-pin fan to a three-pin socket - the extra pin is for fan control. Just make sure you connect the 12V and ground pins in the new fan's connector to the same ones in the laptop.
