HP / Dell / etc. laptop password help thread

Thanks for the info
So V1.1 2 made in May 2003 didn't work?

No I wouldn't think so either

Lol, I didn't think it would.

Then again, I don't know how old this laptop is. Certainly like 5 years old. It's a Pentium IV.

Someone may find the password generators useful, though.

On the good side of news, clearing the cmos removing the battery made it good enough to diagnose the drive as the only malfunction so off to buy a replacement tomorrow.

I'll just get the owner to try a couple of passwords before he forgets even more what the right one could be in case it's needed later, but it looks like it will all work w/o entering the BIOS, so no big deal.

I wonder if I could short the eeprom and have the BIOS reset it. The laptop is not very valuable since the data in the drive is gone anyway (I have never heard an hdd failure as LOUD as this one ... looks like the malfunction is such that keeps the drive in full spin while scratching something LOUD in the inside ... weird it doesn't turn itself off or something).

Lots of fun.

At first, besides the drive, I thought it would have something stuck in a FAN as I've never ever heard a drive fail like that (and yes, I've seen quite a few dozen drive failures).

Also wonder how hard it would be to reverse engineer the BIOS and look at the serial eeprom code etc. Bah, not worth it. Good new laptops are only $400 nowadays anyway and more interesting projects are piled up ;)

Cheers

I've used good old ponypro before (good old satellite hacking times). But not worth it and probably not necessary. Specially since it's not my laptop ;)

I guess one could read the eeprom and the code if it's saved as keycodes like I read some do or just erase the sucker. But easier to ground the address with the paperclip and let the BIOS do the panic restore ... lol

Regards,

I agree, that's why I never made one of these
Pretty sure it's wise to have 2nd chip handy anyway in case all goes wrong, which kinda defeats the purpose

Now if you had any hints on the illusive 595B generator, it would be nice. But after months of searching, I'm pretty sure it must be called something totally non relevant.
I joined every Russian forum I could (and everywhere else) and still can't find it.
My only option is some good samaritan ;) Good luck to me hey.

No Dells anywhere around here to be seen, so I doubt I'll ever need one of those. But I'll keep my eyes open.

Good luck with the samaritan ;)

Dell 700m

I would just like some info on the dell inspiron 700m. eg: where the eepron chip is (if any) if it is shortable etc. It belongs to a friend and she has been using it for a year and a half but she did some MS updates and it locked up on her. I don't get the grey screen of death just" enter password "just as POST goes to windows,as well when i try to bring up the boot menu. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Also A suggestion I see tonnes of posts asking about the 700m and 710m but I don't see any attempt by anyone in the form of replies etc. helping the posters, is this because there isn't any help? Trust me i have searched everywhere to no avail and will continue ....using this post as a last resort before getting a new mobo for her etc....could it possibly be a "pop" at startup?

pretty sure i can't boot from cd. I tried a hdd thru usb and that wouldn't work enter password keeps coming up.I will try to boot the dst cd and let you know how it goes. But since it isn't a grey screen would it be a bios password lock or just a "pop"

You mean like this one?
Note I just went to Google and linked to the first one I saw

You could just remove the harddrive and see what happens ;)

I don't see that screen it's just black and in the center it says in a blue box "enter password" if you try 3 times it goes to a master password enter screen. I have tried removing the hard drive connecting another drive by usb but it won't get past the "enter password screen". Just a note when i remove the cmos battery for awhile then put it back in it starts the windows boot screen but then clicks back to the enter pass word screen. I'm determined to figure this out.

That omnibook vt6200 only beeps when I press f12, it might be different from the 6100s, I don't know. I am guessing that I will have to go to hp for the procedure, smurf it! I hate that.

hi friends

i have here a older compaq presario 2100 ( 2115EA ) from a friend .
he has some problems with , trying to restore the system with compaq recovery Cd but no way
ok , i have the pc at my home and i like to manage a clean windows setup ( already have all the drivers from HP )
ok , i started the normal way , but no harddisk - checked with a life- cd , but same result
finally i understand that the bios ( HDD Master Password ) is the problem .

i made a bios update , ok , but during booting same questions about password .
my friend give me the user-password , ok , i can acces the bios , but not all the options are avaible , only for administrator .-(
while booting , it asks : Enter Drivelock Password , then : Enter HDD Master Password and then message : HDD is locked now .

- Bios Revision : KE.M1.73
Service ID : 13178
Drivelock Master ID : 15472071

Any help avaible
great thanks luxpc

I have no experience myself, etc, but if you can boot stuff off a CD (or an usb drive or whatever) in that laptop, you could use an external (i.e. linux, etc) program to fully erase (i.e. unlock) the hard drive. Problem is that machine will not let you do anything to that drive the way it is. Either move it to another machine or use some software that completely bypass BIOS (if such thing exists ... probably does) booting from a CD-ROM to wipe the disk first (perhaps something like Spinrite could do it, don't know if it fully bypasses BIOS).

Easier would be to take that drive to another machine (i.e. another laptop or a desktop with a $3 HD ide 44 pins to regular IDE adapter), boot there with a CD (i.e. windows) and ask it to wipe the drive.

After that, the Compaql should allow you to write to it, I would hope.

Again, no idea if this would work, but it would make sense to me. Google to see if others are doing this and have any success.

Best of luck to all

EDIT: Strike all that. I googled for you and it seems to be a more complex issue. The locked drive will not be so easily "resetted" in another system. It seems like one utility in a distribution called "the ultimate boot disc" (ATA Password Tool) could unlock it in many cases. A pain, since it seems that some laptops with the lock enabled in the BIOS could start locking all drives that are connected to it (so you could use a new drive, but from that point on it may also be unreadeable w/o the password!!).

So different things.

If you "reset" the password in the BIOS somehow, it would still be unable to read the locked disc in that or any other computer.
If you reset the password in the disc somehow, the disc could be used normally in other machines, but may or may not become locked again when used with that computer. I don't know.

evil omnibook xe3

Hey all

I've still been combing the internet but still to no avail:(,

I found unlock6 (v1) seems to be able to do laptops older than 1997 and i cant find unlock6(v1.1, 2003)

i called up a HP licensed repairer and they estimated about $100 (AU) to fix it and thats not worth it for a 7 to 8 yr old laptop.

My hash code is 13304

If you could tell me what program used to decode BIOS passwords i will help others find their passwords

thanks

Dell problem everythig failed !!

Hi there, new in this forum, this is my first post, O.K. big problem here, i have a Dell inspiron 600m service tag FYG4Z81 asking me for a password in a gray/White screen, i tried the clip trick i unplugged the main battery, the bios battery ( the green one right next to the main battery ) and finally i unwelded the rounded one that it is attached to the motherboard and the password stills there !! when i did the clip trick every time the computer turned off by it self before the gray/white screen asking for the code appears. What a$&/ is happening to this Dell laptop ? by the way the chip number is 24LC04b and it is located under the the black plastic under what i think is the pci port, i did research over the internet and seems no one has a problem like this, PLEASE, HELP ME OUT Thanx a lot in advanced.

Sorry no email addresses on public forum
But I did test the attachment again ie here: https://www.techspot.com/vb/post610782-4.html
And it does seem to be working still. It must be your Zip program

Here's a few Zip programs you can try:

ZipGenius 6.0.3.1150
http://downloads.zipgenius.it/zg603sui.exe
7-Zip
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z457.exe (32-bit)
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z457-x64.msi (x64)
ALZip
http://www.altools.com/image/alzip.exe
Powerarchiver
http://dl.powerarchiver.com/2007/powarc1022.exe
PKZIP
ftp://ftp.pkware.com/PK270WSP.EXE
Winzip
http://www.winzip.com/prod_down.htm
WinRAR
http://rarlab.com/rar/wrar38b5.exe

If it still doesn't work, then I suspect you may have a fault with your Windows or something

Good luck :grinthumb

as I remember, this model ask first 3 tries user password and on 4th try it ask master password. Did you try to enter pw 4 times?
