HP laptop not bootingfrom safe mode

Hello my name is Tisha I come here from time to time because I have found the most excellent help here. I went to turn on my laptop today and it went to a screen that gave me two options: a. Launch start up repair b.start normally. I tried start normally and stared at a black screen. I shut it down manually and tried the start up repair. It did try to do something but gave me an error message saying or could not perform,the screening due to not finding hdd. I tried booting from safe mode it started to dowliad files but then went to a black screen. Is there any wY to recover from this I,have books on my Kindle for desktop that are for college and we are doing finals for the next week. Help please!

Sady to tell you, but you're describing an HD failure and you are looking a 1) restoring from backup or 2) more likely an HD replacement + restore.
