Human waste discovered inside Coke cans at Northern Ireland production factory

On the list of ‘things you’d rather not discover in your soft drink,’ human excrement has to be pretty close to the top. But that’s exactly what was found in cans delivered to a Coca-Cola factory in Northern Ireland last week.

The Guardian reports that the company has now called in police to investigate how the feces ended up in the cans, which arrive at the factory without tops before being filled with Coke, sealed, and then sold across the country.

"Detectives are investigating an incident at commercial premises in the Lisburn area following reports that a consignment of containers delivered to the premises had been contaminated," said a spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The precise gruesome details, such as how many of the cans had been used as toilets, aren’t being revealed. The fact it managed to clog and shut down the machinery possibly suggests the culprit(s) took more than one ‘sitting’ to complete their task.

Coca-Cola said it had impounded all the affected cans. It stressed that this was an isolated incident and did not affect any of its products currently on sale, which is good. Otherwise, its “taste the feeling” slogan could have taken on a whole new meaning.

"The problem was identified immediately through our robust quality procedures and all of the product from the affected batch was immediately impounded and will not be sold,” said a Coke spokesperson. Though surely the smell would have been how the crap-filled cans were first identified, rather than “robust quality procedures.”

Human excrement? That's OK then. As long as it's not something like Komodo Dragon excrement, that would be a little worrisome.

Surely this was due to a bad employee doing something malicious either because they were upset at Coke or thinking it was funny. It's needs to be tracked down accurately and dealt with swiftly and severely. This person needs to face criminal charges as harsh as the law allows if the previous reasons I mentioned are true.

I might go so far as to say that human excrement would only be the third most detrimental ingredient in there; behind the cancer-linked 4-methylimidazole (caramel coloring) and the sugar.

Another fine technologically crappy article from the Jerry Springer of Techspot. And how is this even remotely considered “Tech Culture”. Was it a terrorist attack? Oh wait, that’s not Tech related either. Was the person that did this a gamer? Gamers drink Coke… No, I believe the beginning of my post says it all. This was a total waste of time.

Such tech article much wow

Perhaps it is the fact that many gamers/techies, while sitting at their computer, consume vast quantities of soft drinks, in general, because of the caffeine content.

So, are you implying that Jerry's (correction, "Rob's") article was a "heads up" to Irish Coke drinking gamers?

Maybe it was more like a "bottom's up!" ;)

"...the affected batch was immediately impounded and will not be sold,” said a Coke spokesperson."

Hmmm, that's a bit of an odd thing to say....

1. Has the Coke senior management been struggling with the horror of not actually making profit on these?
or
2. Are they thinking of giving them away instead?
