I have a refurbished compaq persario. I've had it since 05. I could often hear the loud whir of the hardrive. But, now, it's acting up. When it reboots, it gets stuck. The screens go through the natural shut down phases, but when the monitor goes black, the hardrive goes into the loud whiring sound and it stays like that. I do a "hard" shut down, and wait five minutes, turn it back on and it's right where I left it, whiring and not coming back on. Then I unplug it, and wait 5 - 10 min. then plug it back in, and turn it on, it comes back on, just fine. This has happened twice within the last couple days, I think I may need a new hard drive, what do you gurus think?
Thanx in advance.

Yes I agree it's the Hard Drive at fault

Backup immediately to external media, and then consider purchasing a new Hard Drive :)

whether or not its the hard drive, the best thing you can do right now is to back up your data... thats the first thing i would do
