Hi Howard.
I really appreciate all your efforts to solve this problem.
Well i did exactly what you asked me to do and yet I cannot set my home page (or any home page that I choose)
It always takes me here: http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx
I don't know what else to do now.

I must admit, this has got me stumped.

Let`s try this then.

Download the Homepage unlocker Extract it and double click the unlock.reg file. You will be asked if you want to merge the file into the registy, click yes and reboot your system. See if that helps.

Regards Howard :)

I`ve just found this possible sollution. I have no idea if it`ll work or not, but it might be worth a try.

Boot into safe mode under your normal account name.

Click start/run and type regedit into the run box and press the enter key.

Navigate to the following key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

In the righthand pane look for Start Page. Double click it and change it to whatever start page you would like. Click ok and exit regedit.

Reboot your computer.

Let me know the results.

Regards Howard :)

The runonce page is a defaullt page by IE7 there is a button to tick saying dont visit this page again you may have not ticked the box on that page, this page is shown after a fresh install by default.

Dazzer9535 Where is this button " don't visit this page again" ?

Its on the page when you first start up IE7, if it isnt there I would reinstall IE7just incase something went wrong at the first install.

It looks like this http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx

I would do the easiest thing first and just resinstall IE7 from here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx also on the install untick "download malicious removal tool" as you can do that later from here http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

I would reccomend you remove IE7 from add/remove programs in control panel then restart PC then re-install IE7 from the link provided then restart PC again when prompted.

Can`t you tell I don`t use IE7 lol.

I hope your suggestion works dazzer9535.

What a stupid state of affairs to make it so difficult to change a bloody home page. Well done BG.

Regards Howard :)

Well I did uninstall IE7 and then reinstall it and voila all it's OK now. I can set my own home page now. Thanks dazzer9535 for your help but especially thank you Howard for all your efforts and suggestions. After all I did get rid of a lot of nasty entries.

Cheers

Rgards Howard :)

IE7 is quite nice by that I mean the GUI but that specific problem is due to the registry not picking up the install properly if the malicious stuff is installed at the same time, its a bit daft good ole MS, lol

To get rid of that annoying webpage http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx
open a new browser then right click on 'Customize your setting' then select 'new tab' from the drop down menu. Then select 'Don't show this page again' then close that window. This worked for me and got rid of the useless and aggrevating blank webpage. I can't believe all of the other suggestions on this forum on how to get rid of http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx
I hope everyone ignores all other post and takes this advice instead.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I have no doubt your advice is correct.

However, I still think it`s completely unacceptable for Microshaft to decide what should be a default home page without plainly saying so and making it plainly visible on how to set your own hompage.

Under normal circumstances, not being able to change a homepage is a sign of a browser highjack. Hence my advice.

I wonder how many other IE7 users have had this problem.

Regards Howard

in tools at top right hand of page go to internet options. next go to advanced and then press reset. it says not to do unless in an unusable state but it doesn't do any harm other than 1 fix problem and 2 you will have to change your homepage to which ever you had before.
