iheartradio hits million registered users spotify music pandora iheartradio streaming media streaming music

The streaming music industry has seen a handful of frontrunners jockeying for position as of late, the latest being iHeartRadio. The provider on Friday revealed that it has surpassed 60 million registered users and that it’s growing faster than any other radio or digital music service.

The service boasts that it’s even growing faster than Facebook.

Before we go any further, let’s investigate that claim for a moment and see how it stacks up to the competition.

Just last week, one of its top rivals – Spotify – announced it had reached the 60 million active user milestone while Pandora reported 76.5 million active users at the end of the third quarter last year. What makes the conversation a bit more complicated, however, is the fact that iHeartRadio users aren’t necessarily required to register with the service to use its app.

Having said that, iHeartRadio’s app has been downloaded 500 million times already but without an active user number, it’s difficult to quantify just how it stacks up to the competition.

Unlike some of the other players in the space, iHeartRadio doesn’t offer a paid service. Instead, it earns all of its money from ad revenue which means those seeking an uninterrupted listening experience (and are willing to pay for it) will need to look elsewhere.
