Intel i845G + Prescott. Failed to boot.

I bought a 2.8 GHz Prescott CPU with FSB 533 MHz today.
Plugging it to the motherboard, my computer simply failed to boot.
No signal to the monitor nor the keyboard. i.e. everything was just blank while the CPU fan and the hard disk drives are still working though...

I already have the latest BIOS with the Windows XP SP2 hotfix.

I think it is the motherboard that couldn't recognise the Prescott CPU (as it was designed for Northwood).

Is there any chance that my computer will boot? Else my $$ would have been wasted...

Here's my computer specs:

System Model: Compaq Presario 6035CL
Processor(old): 2.00 GHz Intel Pentium 4
8 KB L1
512 KB L2
Board: Compaq 07E8h
Bus Clock: 400 megahertz
BIOS: Compaq 686O2 v3.13 (2003)
HDD:
Seagate 320 GB

Slot 'DIMM1' and slot 'DIMM2' each contained a 1GB DDR400 Samsung RAM.

Thank you very much ><

That processor is not compatible with your system. Your system only has a 400mhz bus while the new processor needs a 533mhz bus. Some motherboards will run the processor at the 400mhz bus speed (resulting in a slower clock speed like 2.0ghz) but yours doesn't seem to be one of those.

I suspect the fastest processor you could use would be a 2.6ghz Northwood with a 400mhz bus.

Well, I bought an older version CPU (Northwood 2.8 GHz, 21x 533Mhz) with some extra money and it worked!!!

Seems my motherboard supports 533 FSB after all =]

So I deduce that the problem is due the the fact the the chipset does not support Prescott CPU, rather than because the bus being too fast.

Thank you seanc! and everybody else who have tried to assist me.
