Apple’s fifth generation iPad as well as the second generation iPad mini are both expected to show up later this month. Looking forward to 2014, however, Cupertino is believed to be working on a new iPad with a higher pixel density as well as an ultra-thin 12-inch MacBook with Retina Display.
According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPad 6 will retain the same 9.7-inch display as existing models but will feature a pixel density between 30 to 40 percent higher. The boost will be a direct result of advancing technologies and will offer more competent visuals.
This is in direct contrast to previous reports that suggested the iPad 6 would ship with a 12-inch display or larger. Kuo doesn’t believe a larger iPad would give a good mobility experience given today’s technology limitations.
Elsewhere, Kuo believes a new 12-inch MacBook with a clamshell form factor that is even thinner and lighter than the current MacBook Air is in the pipeline. Described as having the portability of an 11-inch model and the productivity of a 13-incher, it could even launch at a lower price point than existing MacBook Pro with Retina models due to better production yields.
Kuo has a pretty solid reputation as far as Apple predictions go. As MacRumors points out, he has nailed most of the company’s 2013 lineup dating back as early as January. The analyst also accurately predicted a “third MacBook line” which came to fruition as the MacBook Pro with Retina as well as the discontinuation of the 17-inch MacBook Pro a year ago.
