Is The Tyranny Of Your Smartphone's Notification System Ruling Your Life?
The modern smartphone is nothing but connected, and the software is going to make sure that you know something has happened...
Google has a vested interest in bringing the user’s eyes to the smartphone screen as often as possible. Google’s income is still predominantly built around advertising, and that mean getting eyes on screens, screens being interacted with, and increasing the number of impressions and clicks generated by an Android handset.
Neither Apple or Microsoft rely on advertising int he way that Goggle does. Apple’s revenue comes primarily from hardware sales, while Microsoft’s current focus is Office365 and cloud service subscriptions (although in mobile Microsoft does need to keep building on the current low sales figures of Windows Phone handsets as their primary mobile goal).
"The mobile world we have built is one where the mobile world controls our actions. Is it time to claim it back?"
I think a simple addition in settings of each app regarding turning on/off notifications should be made standard requirement.
