Keyboard Problems

hi, my keyboard has suddenly stopped working on my computer, it has dissapeared completely from device manager and under the control panel> keyboard>Hardware there are no devices and no hardware. i am unsure what i can do? ive rebooted, system restore doesnt fix it, when i plug in a keyboard the lights go on and then straigh off again. Please HELP!!!

What brand, model and type is it? If it is wireless, it is done. Gone. Kaput. One of the highest failure rates in the industry, next to an eMachines computer.
If it is a USB device, let us know.
