You are hobbyist, enjoying things you have learned over time or were able to Google and report; That's just fine.

There are others with DECADES of professional experience (ie: made a living) working with both hardware (multiple platforms such as IBM, Sparc, HP, AIX) and software.

Don't try to position your Hobbyist experience against those who have actually DO/HAVE DONE THE WORK.

I don't play this card willy-nilly, and in fact this is the first time since joining back in 2005 I've resorted to this level and it's not for me, but PERHAPS you might see that others have more credibility, experience and don't need to play Cheer Leader to make a technical point.

Your style befits Facebook far better than any tech site, as you can't stand to be shown as trivial or insufficient.

Update: over that past few weeks my wireless connection has experienced no issues while the wired still disconnects... maybe a future driver update can solve it..

Yes, even new systems frequently get firmware update for the NIC and WiFi adapters

Only last thing I can suggest is to try a USB to Ethernet adapter but it sounds like your NIC is just having issues if it is the only device having a problem.

To be honest I don't think that would work I think his ethernet nic on the mobo or his ethernet card maybe busted.
I'm not too sure if this will rule out his problem but using a loopback plug as shown here will tell him if his ethernet card is failing.

Actually, as the entire operations is performed by the firmware which may need updates but never has wear-n-tear, these devices don't wear out. The replacement does ensure however, another version of the firmware when compared to the original. Even though new out of the box, even these should have the latest firmware downloaded as when boxed was way-back compared to when installed and a newer copy of the code is very likely to be needed.

Wow routers don't wear out, where do you buy these bullet proof routers jobeard, I need me some! Unless I spend over $125 the wireless speeds are in half on mine withhin 2 years and within 4-5 years the wired inmternet crawls om most everything I have ever bought be them DLink, Netgear or Linksys and of course I updte the firmware whenever available.

Well, my two Netgear have been with me for years and I have some clients with the same experiences - - certainly we all can have differences.

I will add that I have heard that some WIFI routers burnout when they have a variable RF system and the user pushes it to 100%, but have yet to see any model like that.

That's reasonable. I learned my lesson with a cheap switch which failed on one slot, so I vowed to buy quality networking equipment and haven't had a reoccurrence.

Ohj yes the quality of the router is very important. When Linksys was Linksys and not Belkin I had the best router ever which lasted 6 years without any drop in speeds. Since then I can't get two years without a drop in half of wireless speeds. My current Asus RT 86AC68R is nearing 2 years without a drop but again this one as about $140.
