Laptop and monitor don't connect

  1. i bought a new laptop and it's working fine but i can't make it work on my samsung monitor. i am using the 15 pin cable and when i go to display it ''sees'' the monitor (shows the monitor name and max res) but when i choose as a main screen, duplicate etc nothing shows up, just a floating ''check signal cable'' with ''digital'' underneath. any idea how to fix it? thanks.

    You have to select the external monitor by hitting Fn+F4 or something like that
