  1. Lenovo is kicking off the work week with a pair of new notebooks – or as they’re perhaps better called, mobile workstations – that represent the launch of a brand new product family.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P50 and P70 were recently announced at the SIGGRAPH 2015 conference and include features that were previously unattainable in a notebook, according to Victor Rios, vice president and general manager of Lenovo’s workstations division.

The ThinkPad P50 is Lenovo’s thinnest and lightest full-function mobile workstation to date. It packs a 15.6-inch UHD 4K display that’s driven by Intel’s brand new mobile Xeon processors (E3-1500M v5 product family), Nvidia Quadro graphics and up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM. It can support up to three storage devices in RAID 0 or RAID 1 configurations and includes a plethora of connectivity options.

The slightly higher-end P70 features the same mobile Intel Xeon CPU, GPU and RAM options with up to a 17-inch 4K UHD display. It can support up to four storage devices and even a legacy optical drive should your line of work still require it.

Both systems rely on Lenovo’s new FLEX Performance Cooling system, a dual-fan design that’s said to allow for cooler, quieter and faster performance.

Lenovo’s new ThinkPad P Series systems will be available starting in Q4 of this year. Pricing starts at $1,599 for the P50 and $1,999 for the larger P70. Those seeking more information are encouraged to check out Lenovo’s interactive tour.
