I have been trying for a looong time to find out how to change the boot order in this computer to run puppy linux from a USB but nothing has worked so I've given up . Instead, I would like to know if I can put puppy linux on the desktop & go from there? If so & not difficult, fine, if not, case closed.Thank you. :)

In my bios under the Boot tab I enabled the Boot Menu which assigned F-12 as the key to press at boot up to get the boot manager to pop up with options to boot from.
If I had Linux on a usb or external HD I would just select it to boot from.
The usb or external HD would need to be attached to the computer before restarting it.
I don't know what your bios looks like.

Well, as I believe I said , not even F12 does anything. So, back to my question, can I put puppy linux on the desktop & use it that way ???

Yes, you can create a DUAL BOOT with Windows + Linux.

During the Linux install, you create the Boot Mgr which allows the selection of Win | Linux to boot.

Do some reading on creating Dual Boot installs
