I want to reinstall on my computer since I got a virus-I can't fix it since safe mode isn't booting, system restore from boot is unresponsive, and normal boot crashes after 2-3 minutes. I lost the disks that my comptuer came with, so can I use a WindowsXP Home to format/reinstall windows on my hard drive, or should I buy a new harddrive and ditch the old one?

Can I use it on my current hard drive or would you reccomend a new one?

Why does this cost less than the SP2?

Your issue above is about software not hardware (ie the actual HardDrive is probably ok)
If you are concerned about if your HardDrive is faulty or not please run a Drive Diagnostics on your HardDrive

Where is the link and cost to XP SP2 at greater cost?

So if I can delete the partition that everything (including the virus) is on when I reinstall it, it should work fine?

Software wise Yes :)
But you need the CD first ;)

By the way, if this is a brand label Computer (ie Dell Hp or other) you may be able to purchase the "Restore" Disks from your manufacture
