Michigan couple say Pokémon Go turned neighborhood into a "nightmare," sues Niantic, Nintendo

From what I read somewhere else, they are trying to make it so that GO needs the owner's blessing around public property. That's not how that works.
Additionally, the lawsuit asks that a share of Pokemon GO's revenue be given to residents whose properties are claimed to have fueled the game's wild popularity. Which is just plain stupid. It would be the opposite as GO is bringing players to the properties (not the other way around).

So to me, it sounds like these people are pretty stupid to be doing this, not only for thinking they can do anything about it being played on public property, but by letting the lawyer they hired convince them that it's a good idea.
I hope that it gets laughed out of court as the only point they have is private property (which I'm sure they can't claim that the game is played on theirs. Just that strangers are being stupid and disrespectful). I'm pretty sure these people only filed the lawsuit because they were convinced they could get $$

If anything this game just brings out the stupid and disrespect out of society. A catalyst, not the cause.

You are one of those gun owners that makes the rest of us look bad.
Protecting your property does not make you look bad. Now if he had taken his gun to the local service station and opened fire, that would make you look bad. Shooting up a police station or hospital would make you look bad. Geez you really need to get a grip on what it is that makes you look bad.

Yes, it does make other gun owners look bad… because that law does not give you the right to fire your gun into the air, and doing so in the manner he described makes him seem trigger happy.

You know very little about civil law. Posted property in rural areas, if posted, you can straight up shot at the person. How can it be a mistake to not read signs that say, 'do not trespass' and 'posted property'. Do you even know what these terms mean? Let me guess, he made a mistake because he was pokeing it up while driving or better yet, texting while driving and didn't read the signs.

Padawan, get a job, pay some taxes, start a family and then let me see you complain about kids on your property snooping around using a game as a guise for who knows what.

You can't enjoy a public park these days. Over the weekend, I like to photograph wildlife, flowers etc at a couple nature parks. Even at 7am when the park opens, if you get there less than 1/2 hour after it opens, you cannot find a place to park because the poke-zombies are everywhere. Smoking, throwing trash around, trampling in the flower gardens etc. It's a mess! How long will it be until this stupid thing goes away?
If people were more considerate, had manors and respect it would be one thing, but most of these *****s are just nuts.
Before you start calling people *****s..learn to spell. The word is manners, not manors which is a type of dwelling you live in.

Hey, maybe take your passion and photograph the 'new' wildlife? I'd like to see pictures of how these poke-zombies are ruining nature. In my area the poke-zombies are very polite, friendly and respect their surroundings.

Okay so Niantic just needs to sue this "Michigan couple " for legal expense.

The ignorance of the people trying to defend this couple is just a joke.

"You can't enjoy a public park these days."
Keyword is Park, no one cares about you photographing wildlife. Parks are a public place open to everyone, if you have a problem with parks actually getting used then you should find a different one rather than complaining like an *****.

"It's a great example on the quality of todays youth."
Okay? What have you done exactly? Nothing? You guys ***** about online games saying that make people violent but a game that is literally based on making you go outside and get exercise is also stupid?
How about you get a hobby and get a life?

Like seriously I really want Niantic to sue the **** out of these guys.

Fortunately I live out in the country but had a "visitor" yesterday that drove all the way down my driveway (100 yds), jumped out and started that non-sense. He realized he wasn't going to get his "prize" when I produced my pump shotgun and put one round in the air, reminding him that Tennessee is a "stand your ground" state and he was standing on mine, without permission .... I'm just waiting for a few of these kids to get themselves killed as this fellow damn near did ..... what, other than a vacuum, goes thought these people's heads?!?!?!

This may be one of the dumbest comments I've read on the internet. It's obviously a lie and never happened. Apparently you have no idea how the game works, but it's not like how some people portray it where they saw a rare pokemon on your driveway and drove down there to get it. These news stories are related to pokemon hotspots created in areas that inconvenience people. There are none of these hotspots out in some **** hole in the country, like you described. What's even worse than your obvious lie of story is the fact that you think that would be cool of you to do? What a loser. Possibly even worse than all of this though is your complete ignorance of what the stand your ground law is. It has absolutely nothing to do with people being on your property. It's a law that allows you to defend yourself if you feel that your life is threatened. Do you know what one of the main factors of this law is? It's called duty to retreat, meaning you have to attempt to run away. So no Billy badass, in your fake story you could not just execute them for being on your driveway, even in ****-hole Tennessee. Some people give america a bad name, and are truly un-american. You are one of those people.

It's a great example on the quality of todays youth.

You think it's just the youth playing this crap? It's young adults, mid age adults, not just kids anymore, which is why it's becoming such a huge issue. I know too many people who are certainly not children who play this, not nearly as crazy as the people who keep making headlines for pure stupidity mind you.

Also worth noting are the 7 people who created accounts today just to post on this one topic, mostly with nothing good to say other than point out their own ignorance. Mostly people trying to defend the morons who trash parks or violate people's right to privacy because they think they know better, comical really, they must either be avid players or have yet to encounter this problem head on.

You are such a liar.

If you had ever played the game, which you obviously don't, then you would know that pokestops and gyms are main attractions and those exist only on public land. The alternative is "catching pokemon" which are spawned and generated based on the active number of players in a given an active area and depending on pre-set spawn points.

So, Mr. Internet-tough-guy-with-a-gun, who is lying, the only reason a Pokemon player would come to your house is if:

A) It was a public location, as is the case with this lawsuit, as it involves a park at a cul-de-sac which is public property.

B) There was such a high enough density of players that it was causing spawns which, as someone who lives in the country myself, I know doesn't happen.

So. No. You've just been busted for lying.

Glad to know you want to be a murderer, very classy of you. If you shoot someone who is not threatening you, I don't care what the law says, you deserve the chair.

Also another note...

If you produce a pump action shotgun and shoot in the air, then I, as a fellow person under stand your ground and engaging in no illegal activity, do not have to "retreat" (which is what Stand your ground means) and I could, in fact, legally draw my own weapon and shoot you in self-defense and then cite stand your ground as you threatened me with a firearm and fired it.

So, yeah, internet-tough-guy don't try that stuff. It is silly. You look stupid and ignorant.

No one wants to see your useless photography.. People playing this game have just the same right as you to go there and do as they please. You obviously feel like your hobbies are more important than others. Grow up.

Pokemon Go is out of control and turning into a public nuisance. People have been injured, robbed, and died over it. If they can't reign it in, then it needs to end.

All of those instances are "natural", the more people that go outside, the higher the number of incidents will occur. There's no helping it really, everyone needs to have some common sense and be aware of their surroundings, this message appears when you start up the app (the latter part at least). I understand criminals are taking advantage of the locations of the stops/gyms, but by now I expect anyone who has played the game to have read at least one article about the dangers or heard it from someone.

If you have to shoot a gun at kids playing a game outside you probably shouldn't have a gun and should probably undergo a mental evaluation. These places are PUBLIC. the road outside your house is PUBLIC as is the sidewalk and other things outside of your house and yard. Don't like it? Doesn't matter. That's the way the laws are written and you should probably get used to them. Also Tennessee is NOT a Stand your Ground state. I should know, I live here.

How is it that pokemon go is the nuisance when it's been other people who did the stuff to these people playing the game?

By that comment, I'm willing to bet you haven't seen how bad people (if they are driving, they are no longer considered kids) can be.

The mental evaluation should be reserved for those playing Pokemon, especially those who think they have the right to play it on anyone's property. Which by the way sounds a lot like something you would do, that is judging by your comment.

That contradictory to the article.

Wow, obviously a hot topic.

Haven't played the game, but I figure that the app should limit the amount of time it works a day to maybe an hour. Allow people to catch but make sure they will also do other things with their lives.

Although I guess that would just cause phone sales to go through the roof as people buy 24 phones so they can play around the clock.

Niantic has created a game that is played in real life. There are some real-life responsibilities Niantic needs to deal with considering there are children who play this and adults who act like children who play this. One example could be:

Niantic should have some sort of reporting system where if the company gets plenty of complaints about something like trash in a specific area where a pokestop is that pokestop becomes either suspended or removed. Not simply moved somewhere else. This would work best in areas or communities with a low population that doesn't have the civil resources to do much else about other than rely on volunteers to pick up other's trash.

Even a small neighborhood should have the option to remove pokestops from their area. At the least, the is the courteous thing for Niantic to do considering the impact of this game. Niantic could always move it somewhere else in this case.

If you're playing Go in someone's yard without permission, you need to leave. Obviously some people won't. It would be nice if there were some way for individuals to opt-out of having their own property in Pokémon Go. Like they could literally just grey out an area on everyone's device where the individual's property line is. I'm not sure how Niantic would do this considering trolls are everywhere, but it's a nice concept if anyone has some ideas.

If it's really bad in your area I bet there are ways to jam nearby GPS signals!

Wow, just wow! That's a nice one right there. In order to keep people off your property, you are now expected to sign in and opt-out of every game designed to be played on a global landscape. So now whether or not you even play the game, you still have to be bothered by it.

I have a better idea. How about leaving people alone unless they actually want to play the game. However if earlier comments are accurate, that is the way it's supposed to function.

I think people need to relax, whatever their stance.

tbh man I'd be pretty upset if they were trampling through my yard and being rude. There's a pokemon hotspot outside of my apartment and those guys stay out there till like 3am, smoking weed etc.
