Microsoft Edge user numbers keep growing as Firefox falls

Perhaps Firefox shouldn't have prioritized activism over software engineering
I have to agree with you but still, it makes me sad. In fact, Firefox is the last viable alternative web engine that is not chrome based. Meanwhile, Brave is chrome based. The level of infiltration that SJW and deep state have is just out of control and big tech just has the whole control of the web.

Weird thing is that I use edge for streaming, I have a high end media pc on a 4k tv in the living room. A few years back I started noticing bad streaming quality from chrome on Netflix and Amazon , I tried edge and it was much crisper. Disney and YouTube is chrome. Still I use chrome for Internet browsing and Edge for streaming.

At work your admin probably makes these decisions , edge is trying to become your default browser after every big update in Windows 10. It doesn't mean that when you press chrome you will get edge but when another program calls for an Internet page, edge will run by default.

Well, I work for a major photocopier manufacturer, and all of the service manuals, bulletins, parts books MUST use internet explorer. The program installs a new user "home page" and all of the electronic documentation (Edocs) install and run in IE. Heck, the install program looks like windows 95 icons!

For my personal use, I use the Brave browser.
Are photocopiers still a thing??

I switched from FF to Edge. I never liked Chrome. Edge is a really good browser and is not sending data to Google.

I've always used firefox (since v1.5!) but early this year when I reinstall windows I have a weird bug that does not allow me to download certain files. turns out, firefox was intermittently denied access to the temp folder. running firefox in admin mode always fixes the problem, but I dont like doing that, especially when all I need to do is just download a single large image or music file.

I guess I'll give edge a try since it's installed in all my PCs. for my phone I've always used bromite and it has not let me down so far.

Like others have said, Edge is useful for Netflix as the only way (including the W10 app) to watch at resolutions above 720p. It also performed much better playing 4K YouTube vids with HW acceleration, don't know if it's still the case.

After they allowed Chrome extensions it got even better. I don't use it as my main but I totally could to be honest.

Edge still has some growing to do. There is at least one web site that is totally incompatible with Edge and requires me to use FireFox.

Actually I don't, I've always used Firefox, Chrome just came out of nowhere as far as I'm concerned.
Chrome was basically bloatware shoved in every installation until it became popular, like those toolbars that would install with other programs. What MS is doing now with Edge reminds me of how Chrome became popular.

The fact that so many people use M$ does not surprise me, nor does it mean that it is better than FF.

the truth is just the opposite. Micro$lop edge is no where near as good a FF and just check out the add ons you can get with M$ compared to FF. No where near.

So I will stick with FF and also win7 for as long as possible.

Even with all the above, I'm still ROFL. I'm on 87.0 64bit and happy as a clam :)

FF doesn't force anything, let's the user choose what & when and allows clearing cache/cookies when you quit -- just couldn't be easier.
I've been using Waterfox for several years, and I have no plans to switch.

For all those who mentioned that the latest Windohs 10 updates have switched the default browser - that has been going on for some time now, and M$ made it a real PITA to make the browser of your choice the default Windohs 10 browser.

Knowing M$, they probably saw Chrome as a great spyware basis for Edge and figured that they would usurp the Chrome users like the Catholic Church usurped pagan holidays by adopting them as their own.

I cannot imagine that Edge is more secure than Chrome. I am willing to bet it is far less secure - especially with M$ at the helm.

It would not surprise me in the least if M$ sees Edge as yet another path for them to shove useless crap down their users throats - only this time, M$ has outdone itself in that users are apparently adopting Edge willingly. 🤣

never heard of WaterFox, but I am checking into it.

Funny how trying to jam edge at users whenever you update your OS can get people to use your browser.
M$ was actually sued for this in the EU courts a few years back. They lost the case, and had to offer other web browsers at the time of a Windows install..

So, I don't know if people have simply grown immune to M$' crap, or we really are getting dumber generation by generation.

Today's average user's thought process must be incapable of, "thinking outside of M$' box", at all, ever.

After all, it would seem the average person has been brainwashed to believe, that the best way to avoid cerebral hemorrhage, is to do exactly what Satya Nadella tells them, unquestioningly.

No, Google put an "install Chrome", check box into just about every software download imaginable. If you didn't have the presence of mind to un-check it, you got Chrome, like it or not.

Survey says........Like....duh..

People use edge for the same reason men climb mountains, because it's there. Me? I'm staying at sea level..;)
