I have an LED monitor and when I leave it powered off for an extended period of time (a few hours) and turn it back on the image 'pulses' and will sometimes force the monitor into sleep mode. If I unplug the power and plug it back in, the monitor works fine for as long as I have it on (even if it's on for hours). The same thing happens again when I power it down for a few hours or overnight.
