Most Uber riders don't tip their drivers, study finds

I work for lyft & I love it; best job I ever had - beats tech by a landslide. Some managers in tech I knew all wanted to prepare food in their retirement. Worked at mcdonalds; might have been that calling. I always payed thru the nose for everything & get treated like scum. Eye drops for cataracts $700 each procedure where others paid $100, yet left with retina tear. The idea of them rating me altho 4.7/5.0 is flummoxing when this quack dr. tearing retinas is unrated. New car washed every month yet not 5 star due to lack of cleanliness. Waitresses obviously sometimes get no tips, when prima donna roommates who were waiters getting their money from me insist on 20-25%. Sometimes THEY cover the entire bill if the person walks out. I get good tips for half the rides at least, perhaps because it's a sports car. Some people here may get many $200,000 bmws free as marketing ploys. The poor sap that pays that $200,000 keeps the company afloat. Medicine works like that too. If you still refuse to pay your share hitchhike, altho when I did I always paid the drivers. Remember, obama's chrysler sells a, get this, $70,000 challenger that is sexy.

Well then might I suggest you stay out of Uber rides then and going out entirely, tipping is considered customary in American culture, if I go out I don't go without enough to at least leave a 10 for a tip. Drivers have also gotten smarter about it and a lot will rate a rider a 1 for no tip no matter other behavior.
The internet has driven us to a point where we supposedly have manifest obligations (?) as customers, to blow a bunch of sunshine up the backsides of those who WE are patronizing, of those who are making money off of US, of those WE are supporting.

The whole nonsense of Uber, Lytf, "Grubhub" and many others, is that "once upon a time", those were all jobs people did after school for beer money.

Uber drivers, (and there are some in our membership), have spent pages upon pages belittling taxi drivers.

Yet now, you have Uber "employees" picketing n the streets, begging for the same treatment and benefits the supposedly lowly cab drivers enjoy.

So, now you, have devolved to a point where you sit around biting your nails that some haughty arrogant Uber driver will give YOU, who happen to be his or her livelihood, a rating of "1". That's pathos in the theater of cruelty.

And head's up Uber drivers who fantasize themselves as having a "career" with the company, Uber doesn't even want you working for them in the long run. They've pissed away as much or more money as any other company, developing driver-less cars.

So make sure you tip the robot, or it will give you a "1" as a rider, and likely a shot with a Taser as well. Then you will have something to whimper about.

Slightly off topic though it may be, IMHO all these food delivery bandits with their hands out for tips, are just a new species off parasite, invading the food chain.

Eating at McDonald's or Burger King used to be what teeny-boppers used to do after school.

Now, there are massive ad campaigns on TV, telling how wonderful it is to have a company like "Grub Hub", to deliver that garbage for your whole family to eat.

As I said then don't Uber, nothing annoys me more than driving 5 minutes to pick someone up to go a block over and not tip

Trust me, I've never set foot in an Uber vehicle, and never will. That's as long as I still have a car and a motorcycle, and able to drive them.

Being over 65, I can get an unlimited free pass to my local public transit authority.

Now WTF do I need you for?

Sad to hear it, I worked in customer service, I know what does it mean, so I try to leave tips for them.
The internet has conditioned people to the extent that you can get every basic program you need free of charge. That sort of extends to Uber in the sense people are likely thinking, "I paid for this already with my phone".

I don't go to restaurants, where I most likely would tip, and accordingly don't carry cash.-

I occasionally find myself thinking, "should I tip my USP delivery man? Or maybe, should I tip my mailman every day he or she gives me the correct mail?

Then I think the better of it.

Then you don't have a horse in this race. I driver Uber, I provide conversation, phone chargers and there pick of the music, and 80% don't tip it makes me as an Uber driver wonder should I provide a passenger anything other than a ride.

I used to keep bottled water and snacks for riders but the ones that tipped never availed of them, but the non tippers would take multiples

Sadly, you base your expectations of how other people are going to or should behave, on what you would do in the same situation. That's bound to be a disappointment, unless of course, if you can somehow engineer only taking people with your value set on as customers.

At the end of the day, (and this obviously depends on how well Uber compensates you for your services), if people don't hand you cash, there is much less likelihood of some fool or drug addict, stuffing a gun down your throat and taking those precious tips off you. Nor can they skip on the fare.

These are perils those "lowly taxi drivers", face on a daily basis.

Couple points; I used to "serve the mail". The first person out with a hefty Christmas tip, was a Jewish lawyer. Meanwhile, a good Catholic family with which I was reasonably familiar, and who held such fervent beliefs of Jesus and redemption, never gave me squat.

I would hazard a guess that more people at a bar would rather accept a free round, than buy a round. Which probably holds true more so for a good looking woman, who never ever has to buy her own drinks.

And then you have to take into account socioeconomic situations.

Like I said above, Uber is a sh!t and lawless operation, who is spending as much or more money than other companies on drtiverless car technology.

I've spent so many pages on arguing with Uber drivers who feel they are above the law, and don't have to have a chauffeur's license to use their vehicle as a pay to ride entity.

My stance is, that if you want to collect money for taking people for money in any vehicle, then you need to have a CDL.

It's just not the same as collecting gas money from your friends to drive to the beach.

FWIW, you sound young and naive on the topic of basic human nature. Time will beat the knowledge into you, of that I"m certain.

Not judging, just observing.

One I already understand human nature and Uber is a side gig for me, I do it when I want some extra petty cash or I'm fighting with the wife, and secondly a special license would never work the drivers would quit, the difference is it's our car not the companies like a limo or a cab and we are independent of Uber.

You understand human nature, yet you're still here moaning about not getting a tip from everyone you pick up.

I understand human nature very well at this point also. Uber drivers are always right , and I'm always wrong.

Now buzz off, and quit quoting me.
