Bummed that you missed Motorola’s special Cyber Monday discount on the Moto X? Fret not, as it turns out Motorola wasn’t prepared for the event either and will offer the handset again at $349 starting tomorrow and on December 9.

Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside issued a public apology for the botched sale and outlined exactly what went wrong. The first issue was the fact that Motorola misjudged consumer demand for the Moto X Cyber Monday promotion. Second, the company didn’t perform a thorough pre-sale site test as testing failed to reveal weaknesses caused by large volumes of concurrent orders.

As a result, Motorola’s Moto Maker website, where buyers go to customize the handset to their liking, was down most of yesterday as servers crumpled under heavy traffic. Woodside said some orders were filled but many people were left trying to place their orders unsuccessfully throughout the day. As you can imagine, this frustrated buyers to no end.

The good news is that Motorola said they have found the cause of the problem and noted that customers shouldn’t have any trouble accessing Moto Maker on Wednesday or next Monday. What’s more, Motorola is also extending the sale of Moto X accessories through tomorrow. Customers can enjoy 30 percent off select items, we’re told.

If you are in the market for an off-contract smartphone, the $349 Moto X along with the $349 Nexus 5 from Google are the two best choices on the market in terms of price versus performance.

So it appears that the government isn't the only one whose servers aren't ready for primetime.
