NBC, TBS, TNT iPad apps stream full-length shows for free

NBC, TBS and TNT have all recently updated or released new iPad apps that allow users to watch full-length episodes of the majority of shows that each network offers. The updated NBC app allows you to watch full episodes of some of your favorite shows including Friends with Benefits, America’s Got Talent and The Office, all free of charge. The somewhat clunky app also includes theme-based games, photos and a complete schedule of upcoming programs.

The TBS and TNT network apps, collectively owned by Turner Broadcasting System, are also free to download but require you to authenticate your cable or satellite provider to unlock full episodes.

The TBS app is much more refined than the NBC app with only four categories: Featured, Schedule, History and More. The programming lineup here is extensive, with originals like Conan and Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns and House of Pain. Syndicated shows include Family Guy, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Seinfeld and Friends.

TNT’s app is similar to the TBS app for obvious reasons. This app includes five categories: Shows, Movies, Schedule, History and More. Programming is displayed via a revolving mechanism and includes original titles like Memphis Beat, Leverage and Rizzoli & Isles. The app also airs syndicated series such as Southland, Dallas and Bones.

The Movies category features 20 films that I haven't heard of. It’s safe to assume that these are all made-for-television movies. A cable or satellite account is also required for full access to TNT programming.

The majority of big name television providers are supported to unlock full episodes with the exception of Time Warner. No word yet on when or if they will be added to the list.

When will cable companies offer a service comparable to the prices paid? They need to offer all there shows all the time and throw out tivo. Netflex and redbox are the only companies giving them competition and there prices are surprisingly fair.

Netflix should make a program using bluetooth with your computer and live streaming where you can "change" channels on your computer with a "remote". Even open new tabs so you can watch\load several programs at once. They could have a list of channels prestreamed for speed, like say via a device connected to the back of your computer or tv. It could also just download in the back ground when your computer is running. Personally selected movies would download as they do now. You could allocate how much bandwidth the prescreaming can use.

"A cable or satellite account is also required for full access"...its not free. America needs less TV and more reading if we are EVER going to produce great minds again.

No sound for either TBS or TNT app. Any ideas?

I also have sound issues with the TBS app. The brief 15 second commercials play just fine, but once the show starts (I have tried different episodes of the Big Bang Theory) there is no sound. Has this been fixed?
