New Look of TechSpot

I only have a problem with "Display modes" which doesn't quite show all of the drag down menu. The two other ones work fine.

In order to use up less real-estate, I wanted to replace my avatar (Guinness pint glass) with a smaller one. Thinking the option would show when I deleted the current one, instead I lost my avatar alltogether and I am not allowed to upload my new one, I can only select from the standard list. Any chance of getting that fixed, please?

Using W2K/SP4 and Firefox 1.0PR (or even IE6) and (my standard) screen resolution of 1024x768, every pull-down menu works fine. Must be either Mozilla 5 or a different resolution.

If you select Print Preview, then print from there, you should get the whole page on your printer, at least I do.

Nope, RBS, Re; printing, that doesn't work with my printer, {Epson 42] Glen of Tailored Systems, a member, I saw him today, & he said go to printer>properties, click "enlarge/reduce", then "fit to page", that didn't work either.
Have you tried printing since the new look? maybe it IS teething troubles, & will be sorted.

Maurice

RBS, I have an image of your old Guinness in My Pictures, [jpeg 67 x 131, 2.51 KB]
If you can tell me how to get it to you, on site, or where ever, perhaps you can downsize it, [Photoshop?] & re-install it as your Avatar, or is it more problematic than that?

Maurice

I agree that the user info with the avatar and the other stuff takes up way to much space...

I think it looks fine myself, otherwise I do believe you can disable "display avatars" in your options if you want.;)

/me doesn't like the new look, but then again I'm a picky bugger who prefers vBulletin 2 over 3.

I like what you guys did! Hahaha, took me awhile to get used to it though. I've been in Hawaii for the past few weeks. :)

I've gotten use to most of it but the space the avatar takes up vertically just seems to be too much.

Still have the same problem as shown in the screenshot. It's not a HUGE deal but it does cut off some things like page numbers (I may/may not be able to go the next page of search results due to that).

Ok, it seems Firefox displays TS a little bit better than IE does. Although I have noticed something..

I am going to have to go with my instinct and say this is not a issue that is coming from my end. I know your saying that you don't have this problem, but I am seeing a large issue on IE (as in the the screenshot in one of my posts above), and I am seeing THIS problem in Firefox PR2. The same area on the right side of the table is being cut off, although LESS than it is in IE. The edges on the left side are rounded off. The edges on the right side are not which leads me to think these two things are connected somehow.

I have attached a screenshot to show what I am seeing in Firefox (PR2 version which is now downloadable from the Firefox website).

Unless it is just supposed to be that way, but I wouldn't think so.

I'm going to play with IE and see if I can figure out any reason why this might be coming from my end though.

Are any of you running Windows XP with SP2? I'm kind of wondering if it may have anything to do with changes made in SP2.

I checked with a number of browsers, all show the left side with rounded corners, and the right side with straight corners, so that must be the design.

What is your resolution, if not in a 4:3 format, that might explain.

Can I just say that I miss the profiles access, but perhaps it is not considered a neccessity, it isn't, of course, I can see that it stops members wandering off the subject, & saying "welcome!" etc.,.....[wonder who that could be??]
Is there a central point where profiles can be accessed, or perhaps they are there for internal use only?

Maurice

Oops, I must have been looking in my own posts (who don't have that Danger shield).
I had not even noticed the damn things until Nodsu's post!

They haven't gone anywhere. Just click on the poster's nickname & you will be taken to his profile. Click on the little ball right next to his name & you will have a drop-down menu with more options including the one to view the user's profile.

It is odd that one can't report his/her own bad post.

If I have made a bad post then as a responsible member I should be able to report it to the moderators to receive my just punishment instead of having to silently edit it afterwards and hope that noone noticed.. :p

RBS, you say "help", did you have a look at my post here regardiing recovering your old Avatar' does it look a load of nonsense, or not, I would appreciate your comments, or are we still not talking?
Could I send the Guinness image via the internal PM method, if so how?, & would it help.
As an afterthought, I guess you've used "Replace Avatar" or does it no longer work?

Trying to help,
Maurice :)

Found the problem. :(

Ok.. here's how this thing is hosing up. I"ve attached 3 pictures to display- first how the search box gets cut off. Then how Display Options appears both on the first rollover, then on the second (where you see the line of the box, but it's drawn God only knows where.

I've figured out though, the proplem relates to the fact that my firefox box isn't maximized to my 1024x768 screen. With Trillian on the right, I have less than full real estate. It turned out that any substantial encroachment on the horizontal space was causing issues, not just one particular example. EDIT: To be clear, with Firefox maximized across the screen and trillian hidden, the issues that I've had do not appear.

This is yet another evil of a statically designed table. Although I'm sure this also has JS/CSS to blame. puke:

Any suggestions?

I still have my old Avatar (and a new, slightly smaller one) on my PC.
There is just not yet the possibility to replace/import your own avatars.
I am sure this hiccup will be resolved some time soon.
Until then I will just sit in my Director's chair.:slurp:
Correction: Julio fixed the problem, Slainte!

I tried the 1280x1024 resolution, but that hurts my eyes. Also such a resolution covers only a partial width of my screen's real-estate, big blue vertical side-ribbons are visible on each side. I don't see any distortions or cut-offs. Perhaps because of the superior drivers of my Matrox G550?
1024x768 on a 19" monitor is much healthier for my eyes, I'll stick with that.
I don't use Trillian or the likes, so I have no issues at all with other programs vying for desktop-space.

I have enabled 'similar threads' feature, look for those at the bottom of the pages. I have found that to be extremely useful in the past when looking for information in other sites/forum[not-allowed][not-allowed]s.

Now all we need is to make people read them :)

To Goalie and anyone else with problems: I have no problems in Opera v7.54 or Firefox PR v0.10.1

The only thing I can think of is that my computer is a clean install... I.e. I do not have the old TS layout cached... Try clearing your Temporary Internet Files and see if that does it...
