Nvidia boss Jensen Huang calls Radeon VII "underwhelming" and "lousy"

Huang dissed both Intel and AMD in one sentence. He doesn't seem to have any respect for either.
Intel's monolithic architecture is getting clobbered by AMD's chiplet strategy. Nvidia has the same vulnerability. Their performance comes at an enormous cost. I wouldn't be surprised if AMD's new lower tier cards will cost far less than comparable Nvidia cards.
Huang could take a few lessons from Trump's Art of the Deal. He should have said "Those AMD guys are wonderful, I love them. I'm glad to see they're beginning to pull themselves out of the hole. It's depressing to be dead last for 10 years. I wish them the best."

LOL you win funniest comment on TECHSPOT and I'm Pro Trump ;-) BUT only because he puts hard working LEGAL citizens first. Did you know in CT illegals have sanctuary cities and churches? Malloy told them to hide in churches and legally I.C.E and do anything about it. " "UNDOCUMENTED" get free financial aid for college. Also they get a fake drivers license to use to vote. CT has been giving a lot of free stuff, housing, food, health etc. illegals still have more rights that the average legal American. Go to any rich area in Westport, CT or California all the workers are Mexicans and I use to work with a few doing remodeling. Most have no car insurance and get paid cash and usually leave the scene of a car accident. This actually has been a big issue with them regarding motor vehicle violations.

Thought I was on PoliticalSpot instead of TechSpot for a second.

GamersNexus did a technology review of DLSS and it comes at a quality loss. It's not worth investing in IMO. It's only a few frames better then lower quality AA methods and comes with visual trade offs.

If you are investing in the future for a gaming rig, this generation of cards is not the one to get. It will be at least 5 years before we start seeing a decent amount of RT games and the hardware still needs more power. I'd at least say wait one generation, if not 2 if Ray tracing is what you are after.

For your specific situation, which is a professional application, it makes sense. Not so much for gamers though. Until I see at least 20 RT AAA titles, RT shouldn't even be a consideration to gamers as a video card should not be purchased for a feature that is not used.
I am happily using raytracing today and loving the extra time and money I get by creating content for more clients in the same amount of time. It's a Godsend for the creative professional.

If AMD has to use brute-force techniques to match performance with Nvidia products, then of course that means they're running on razor-thin margins. I had read an article about how AMD might get more efficient with technologies in a new patent application - U. S. patent application 20180357064. But now I see that AMD doesn't need to invent a new alternative to patented Nvidia technology.
Instead, apparently, the real reason Nvidia manages to do more with less is because they use tile-based rendering. A standard technique for GPUs in mobile phones. And something Nvidia didn't disclose, hardware enthusiasts found it out themselves by studying how the cards behaved. So no patents are stopping AMD from doing the same.
Why aren't they?

Dude, the article you are commenting on is 4 months old. The assumption that Nvidia does better due to tile based rendering has been around for 2 years and I've yet to see any proof to back it up.
