Nvidia boss Jensen Huang calls Radeon VII "underwhelming" and "lousy"

The RTX is a waste of money at this point. Questionable visual increase (unless you are a fanboy, in which case you are trying to make it sound like its bigger than the difference between Doom and Gide Doom back in the 90's).

I usually get a nVidia card, but the latest cards are a waste of money. Of course, I own a 1080Ti which looks like it will be fine until 2020.

He is maybe a hater, but he has a point with this: “Intel’s graphics team is basically AMD, right?” Huang asked. “I’m trying to figure out AMD’s graphics team.”
Nevertheless, when ATI introduced tesellation with Radeon 8500, nobody bragged about it and didn't call it the miracle. I get that RT is hard to do and very expensive from a computation/hardware standpoint and this in turn means that a lot of that silicon inside the Turing GPUs is used only for raytracing, hence decreasing performance, which defeats the actual purpose of more hardware, which is to give you more performance.
Still, I have said it and I say it again. Turing chips are very big. They are on 12nm which not a new node, but still is more expensive than 16nm. RTX 2080 for example is almost 600mm^2, which is just HUGE and a cost of 500-700$ is justified.
Nevertheless, he shouldn't respond like this to the press.

He's the head of the competition, what else is he supposed to say ???????

To me it sounds like a publicity stunt to cover up the fact that he is very concerned that they will be getting their asses handed to them in the near future if they don't get their **** together and make some cards that offer a revolutionary step forward AND that **normal** people can actually afford to buy....

It's amazing what bullshit you guys will spout. $350 for a 1070ti level gpu is not expensive. The GTX 970 launched at that price and it became one of the best selling if not the best selling GPU. It's obvious you have no clue what you're talking about.

When gtx970 launched it was the second fastest gpu in the world, not the 5th or 6th. Big difference pal. Rtx 2060 should never cost 400€.

Hmm no one is pointing out the elephant in the room. 60 compute units when the Vega carries 64, this I have a feeling is not the Top of the line Radeon VII. So if you ask me He is scared. 2080 Performance with much less overall cost invested means AMD can beat any price point Nvidia sets with the RTX that would make them a profit. AMD pulling a Nvidia on Nvidia. Boast about how good it is and in 3 months drop it's big brother and say oh yeah we also got this one. Maybe they call it the Radeon 9, to go with the Radeon 5?

Are you aware of the fact that at that price is launching a xx60 series? not a xx70 series? that means that the xx50 series will be costing $250+. We are not getting performance at good price, better yields and more node efficiency means more at the same price, but instead we are getting spiked prices.

When I buy a graphics card today I don't want it to only run games today with today's technology I want it to be able to run tomorrow's games and their technology and the games in a year and in two years and three years and maybe even five years if I want to keep my computer for longer.
It's the same reason I buy more storage space than I have to use right now and more RAM than what my system is needing today because every day new software is released with higher requirements and I don't want to have to redo my system every single day.
I am amazed so many PC enthusiasts are against future-proofing their systems and only want to build it for one day at a time.
I'm very excited about Ray tracing I do a lot of 3D rendering and I don't want to have to wait while something renders in order to tweak a light to see the changes in the reflections I Can See it all in real time. That saves a huge amount of time allows me to work for more clients in the same amount of time and make a lot more money than I could have ever done before with a card from AMD or a previous generation of Nvidia.
Even if you don't use Ray tracing the D LSS is technology worth investing in to help future-proof your system because that's something developers are using even if they choose not to use Ray tracing. Being able to use a Farm of supercomputers to analyze a game and change the way that it's rendered is amazing and literally game-changing pun intended.
AMD is downplaying these Technologies because they were blindsided by it and were not ready you compete with this level of Graphics rendering.

Don't just defeat your competition, DESTROY THEM.

If you want to crush AMD then you've got to underprice them and outperform them at every turn.

Drop the price of the 2080Ti, the 2080, the 2070 and the 2060 to just below the price of their whatever cards.
His hubris prevents him from doing that ATM. If AMD turns out to be competitive or, heaven forbid, better than the green monster in benchmarks, he will have to do all that stuff to keep the big green monster alive.

It's a non-starter AMD cannot be competitive in DLSS or in Ray tracing because they just don't have that technology yet they're still competing with the old generation of graphics.
Hyper car manufacturers don't price their vehicles to compete with Toyota Camrys.

Blatant signs of uncertainty right there.

If the amd card comes out and people consider it just fine with no big negatives then technically its a win for AMD.

the rtx cards on release were attacked from the get-go, and I think thats what nvidia is trying to trigger with this comment, the first flame to also attack this new card because if it releases smoothly then people will look at that in a big way compared to how rtx is known as an expensive barely 1080p capable monster(when those features are fired up I mean)

This is possible given that yes some CUs are indeed disabled. I'm guessing that was a choice of yields though. If they do release the full card it won't be until yields are good. It's also possible the full fat card will only be for professionals.

GamersNexus did a technology review of DLSS and it comes at a quality loss. It's not worth investing in IMO. It's only a few frames better then lower quality AA methods and comes with visual trade offs.

If you are investing in the future for a gaming rig, this generation of cards is not the one to get. It will be at least 5 years before we start seeing a decent amount of RT games and the hardware still needs more power. I'd at least say wait one generation, if not 2 if Ray tracing is what you are after.

For your specific situation, which is a professional application, it makes sense. Not so much for gamers though. Until I see at least 20 RT AAA titles, RT shouldn't even be a consideration to gamers as a video card should not be purchased for a feature that is not used.

Like @kira setsu said, it will be sales of the card that determine its success.

As I see it, nVidia is using RT as a marketing gimmick especially since RT does not benefit everyone ATM.

Because of this I will never buy another Nvidia product again. Hey Nvidia call me when you can make CPU's that can compete with INTEL since the big shots like IBM and Cyrix gave up. Lisa Su is miles smarter than him and has more class. Nvidia, just like INTEL.................... Greedy, cocky & don't give two $hits about their consumers and after raping them the consumers just keep wanting more.

That dudes tight leather jacket seems to be restricting blood to his brain. Nobody, I mean NOBODY could of saved AMD like Lisa did when they were almost bankrupt. I'm mad because he is disrespecting Lisa and that woman has worked her butt off and I give her credit with the stress and also INTEL stealing her workers. Give respect where respect is due!

I think Huang was talking about the support for his proprietary DLSS and Ray Tracing..?

Because from an end-user's perspective, compared to the Industry's standards of FreeSync2 & Microsoft's DXR, that G-sync and Nvidia RTX look underwhelming and lousy...

Huang should have ignored the Radeon 7 completely, it's simply not good enough to feel threatened by. That's not to say it isn't good, since it seems to be as good as a 1080TI or 2080. That's nothing to sneeze at, but then AMD released it at the same price as those cards, not even a $50 reduction to entice those on the fence. IMO that's nice but nothing special. Nvidia still has the 2080Ti to lord over everyone with.

My favorite part of all of this is the lack of Nvidia ballbusting that the AMD fanboyz were crowing would happen before CES. And nothing happened. And then this imaginary 7nm Nvidia vaporware that's gonna crush AMD at some phantom time in the future. Who gives a **** what's gonna happen in 10 months? We want concrete announcements and products NOW. At CES 2019/01.

A big pile of meh from both sides, nothing compelling to buy in the next half year or so.

Technically though if nVidia doesn't push it, it will never become anything. Even if there is a potential market for it. It has to be pushed, before people will learn about it.

Thinking a bit more, the Radeon 7 is a good option for one huge relevant-today feature: Freesync.

It's high enough performance (if we can trust the numbers provided) where this card plus a 1440p or 4K FreeSync monitor will cost much less than a 1080Ti or 2080 plus a G-Sync monitor.

I can't help be wonder if a lot of the quotes were taken out of context to amplify this supposed tech-world drama.

Something that doesn't make him sound like a 13-year-old. Publicly calling a competitor's product "lousy" doesn't exactly invite good publicity(regardless of whether it's true)

Huang dissed both Intel and AMD in one sentence. He doesn't seem to have any respect for either.
Intel's monolithic architecture is getting clobbered by AMD's chiplet strategy. Nvidia has the same vulnerability. Their performance comes at an enormous cost. I wouldn't be surprised if AMD's new lower tier cards will cost far less than comparable Nvidia cards.
Huang could take a few lessons from Trump's Art of the Deal. He should have said "Those AMD guys are wonderful, I love them. I'm glad to see they're beginning to pull themselves out of the hole. It's depressing to be dead last for 10 years. I wish them the best."

LOL you win funniest comment on TECHSPOT and I'm Pro Trump ;-) BUT only because he puts hard working LEGAL citizens first. Did you know in CT illegals have sanctuary cities and churches? Malloy told them to hide in churches and legally I.C.E and do anything about it. " "UNDOCUMENTED" get free financial aid for college. Also they get a fake drivers license to use to vote. CT has been giving a lot of free stuff, housing, food, health etc. illegals still have more rights that the average legal American. Go to any rich area in Westport, CT or California all the workers are Mexicans and I use to work with a few doing remodeling. Most have no car insurance and get paid cash and usually leave the scene of a car accident. This actually has been a big issue with them regarding motor vehicle violations.
