Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Review: Who Is It For?

That's certainly the official story. Now, I'm inclined to believe a global increase in demand on these fabs across multiple areas caused the issue in conjunction with the pandemic restrictions and stopping, however, I say "Official story" for a reason: I just don't think none of the companies couldn't foresee the increase in demand as companies are very likely to bid for fab allocation year in advance of the nodes actually being considered good enough for production runs.

So it's probably not entirely false that they had *some* unforeseen difficulties but:

1) I just don't think they couldn't foresee the greater demand at all
2) I also don't think they're being sincere in their estimations of how much time it's taking them to recover.

The motivations for 1) and 2) are quite simple: Price fixing.

Well, that wont work unless these companies were behind majority of scalping operations too for getting massive tax free profits.

I remember reading about MSI rigging the whole thing to loot people by scalping. So not only is it possible but has already happened been caught.

Every single product a company makes is a "cash grab". In this case you wont pay any more than you would have but scalpers will make less. Is Techspot secretly scalping? Is this why they are upset at Nvidia and the MSRP?

The fact is demand for these things is high. You cant blame Nvidia for profiting. Nobody has the right to a low priced graphics card. If people were willing to pay you more money for doing your job then you would take it. Why shouldnt Nvidia?

That exaggerates the problem but the main problem remains global shortages, that's why we can't buy new consoles, Zen3 CPUs, RDNA2, and even cars are in the same situation.

Global shortage is only true if you are after MSRP prices. Behold the abundance of everything if you are willing to pay "the actual price".
There is no shortage, just global inflation (that Americans will deny).

Wouldn't bother. If you really want a 3080 Ti, just wait for pre-builds like from Dell which will have this new GPU as option in a few months time. Of course, if you already own a 30-series GPU and relatively 'new' system, not ideal to go this route.

Apparently you are unaware of the law of "supply and demand".... If there were no shortages, the prices wouldn't be so high....

Haha, I tried to just get in the EVGA Queue, but the site has been completely booked since 15 mins before launch. It seems that your best bet right now is Newegg's Shuffle. I wasn't even trying to buy one, just get in the EVGA Elite Members queue, but at this point, looks like I'll be thousands back in the queue regardless of being an elite member and being early to the site. I can't even get in the queue at this point.

The cards are not available for any price except the 3090 that no one wants, only few are available for people willing to pay more, supply and demand basically.

This card is a ripoff, and those who buy it are just encouraging this kind of behaviour from Nvidia and the likes.
I know it's business, but it still sucks!

I'll stick to my 1080 'till it litterally falls to pieces before I get robbed like that!

I'm just going to wait and see if the RTX 40 series has any better luck. We are already about 1/4th our way into this generation of GPUs where availability and price make it not even worth trying to acquire. Perhaps in a couple years when DDR5 comes out and high end CPUs are also available I may build a new PC. Until then what I'm already working with is doing quite fine.

Honestly, one of the worst value GPU ever. $500 for extra 2Gb VRAM and 10% faster than 3080. This now kinda makes the 3090 look more value since it has 24Gb VRAM and 13% faster than 3080. 3080 Ti pricing makes little sense. At least if it was $999, maybe... just maybe it would have been much better (though MSRP these days don't really exist outside of BestBuy FE cards).

$400 more (if you can get one) for 10% increase, a bargain.
Compared to the $2200 I can sell my 3080 for right now?

Yea it's a good deal..... Fairy tale land all The tubers want to preach doesn't exist and until it does these opinions don't really matter.

I'd much rather have this card at $1200 than a 3080 at $2000

If you can buy nothing sure buy nothing helps everyone out in the long run too but if you gotta buy then you can't compare to msrp that just isn't a part of reality.

I went by Microcenter earlier.

There's already about 20 people waiting patiently on line for the launch. I had a conversation with the #1 guy on line and he's been sitting there, in his lawn chair, since Monday. Last week there were people camped out, but I'd imagine the cold winds and rain got rid of them.

I'll return to Microcenter tomorrow at 9AM and wait for the vouchers to be handed out.

So far, from what I see, the 3080Ti performs like a 3090 in everything but 4K. The 3090 has the clear advantage even if it's only less than 10fps better.
And did you get one?

Street pricing and availability aside, I still can't get over how a £1050 MSRP GPU can only manage 51 FPS at 4K in Cyberpunk. Throw in another £500 and you can get an extra 2 FPS with a 3090.

I sincerely hope that's down to Cyberpunk being a hot mess, rather than an indication of future performance requirements.

I was talking about product availability, not price. I am perfectly aware of s&d. I am also aware of the fact that "other people" now get the products before it hit's the shelves causing the appearance of lack of products. I am not defending the scalpels, I am pointing towards the "where the inventory goes" for people with extra income that want to buy one or two cards. There are no shortages. Just inflated prices, caused by Americans.

They are available on ebay. Don't play coy, please :) Yes, they are overpriced, but Americans are still buying, making it an "ok price" in USA. Unfortunately for people expecting MSRP prices, they are now outside the "norm". Norm is the scalpels pricing, since they manage to get the cards before they hit the store shelves.
There aren't "few are available for people willing to pay more" there is almost "unlimited" stock of overpriced cards everywhere.

STOP Advertising this SH1T for Nvidia, they don't deserve it, if they cannot keep prices down they can do a swan dive into bottom of the ocean with their New Sh1t cards that cost a kidney to buy

In answer to the title of this article... Crypto-bores and Scalpers.

On a separate note...
I wonder if NVidia (and AMD) will use this shortage as a time to permanently raise the prices of their cards.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if we never see them return to pre-shortage levels.

I really don’t think you understand....there ISN’T enough product availability... the ones you see are selling above MSRP because of the fact that they are the only option...
if there were tons of cards available, they’d be selling for MSRP.

Let me provide an example for you:
There is a big sports event happening next week, let’s say the World Cup Final.
There are only 50,000 tickets - this is obviously fixed since the stadium’s capacity can’t be changed...
All 50,000 tickets sell out in a few minutes yet...
You see them on eBay the next day for double or triple their original price! Why is that? Are more tickets somehow available?
Of course not! People are simply scalping them since DEMAND exceeded SUPPLY.

Up until game time, tickets will still be available -human nature will dictate that there will always be people looking to profit... but does this mean that there are sufficient tickets for sale?

Please look up supply and demand if you still don’t get it...

much better in RT and also support DLSS2.0 on top of that. It .

BRB, going to buy every single one of all the games in Steam that PROPERLY take advantage of that.....

Marketing simply rule this world.

I knew what you meant the first time around, I just disagree. ;) I still disagree. You simplified the market too much. Basically, if nVidia cant stock a billion GPUs, there is a shortage. Well, sure, in some universe...

Your supply moved to "ebay", sort of, that's all. Now, if no one were buying those GPUs at those prices, scalping would have stopped by now. There's your demand.

What an incredibly unbiased review, starting with the selection of games and finished by the closure.
What bias are you alleging? Also, what does game selection matter, you can select any games you'd like and you're going to reach the same conclusion that gain in performance is way out of whack with increase in price.

Yet you clearly don’t understand! If there was a ready supply, there wouldn’t be crazy lines at all physical locations ... the cards wouldn’t sell out in seconds at each online distributor... and they wouldn’t be selling for double (or more) MSRP on ebay!

There’s no oversimplification here - simply clear and obvious facts.
