PC shipments continue downward trend with 11% drop in Q2

What is wrong with you people?

PC in this article is meant as desktop sold at retail. Like Alienware and **** like that. AND NOT sold motherboards, CPUs, GPUs, etc.!

One of the reason PC shipments are going downwards is because today (almost) everyone ownes a PC and there is no need to buy a PC if you already have one. Only if you want to upgrade, but only hardcore gamers do that.

Another factor is PC hardware is quickly hitting the wall. We're not seeing the speed and tech gains we once did. So there's no need to upgrade every two years anymore. Couple that with the use of smart phones and tablets and you get a sales decline. There will always be a place for the PC though. Have you ever tried to type a report on a smart phone or tablet? There's still looks of things you can only do efficiently on a PC.

It's not hardware hitting this wall you mention. It's software usage not needing higher end hardware, that is allowing phones and tablets to catchup. So its not a hardware wall, it's peoples needs/desires are being met with less than what PC hardware is capable of.

The days of PC as we know them are numbered because people don't want to continue placing a 4 cubic foot box on or under their desk. Just think within the next 10 years 4K gaming will be available from an ITX small form factor case. After this achievement, I couldn't imagine the average home owner needing a 4 cubic foot computer case on their desk. The fact that gamers are pushing the envelope, requiring a large case will only go so far. Eventually the small form factor concept will win, dictating how much space is acceptable for personal computing. All of this made possible because of users needs being met with computing power, we had at our disposal yesterday.

An ITX factor PC is still a PC. That kind of form factor could become more popular both in commerce and home, partly because office desks are getting smaller and new homes being so compact. Ironically monitors are getting larger often in multiple with the demise of CRT technology. However I suspect there will be a market for ATX form factor due to the adaptability it allows. Just how many add on cards can install on an ITX board?

I believe PCs are still a decent thing to invest in, but I also like having the portability of a tablet and laptop. This is no longer the age where people stay home, this is an age where people are on the go. Moms, dads, and kids are not just sitting around the house anymore. Things have to be instantaneous now. It amazes me what they do with technology now. I do not believe tablets are a fad. Is that why businesses invest in these or is that just my imagination?

I think it's completly the opposite. People that have tablets were on the go before tables existed, and before modern technology more people were active and less fat.
