Last week a mysterious countdown appeared at the top of smartwatch company Pebble’s website. It’s still not certain what the timer - which ends tomorrow - might be counting down to, but a ‘trusted source’ claims that it is related to the announcement of a new watch, according to Ubergizmo.

Some have speculated that the company would announce the release of new Pebble software when the timer expired, although using a website countdown does seem a bit extravagant to usher in a device update.

The timer’s expiry date coincides with Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky’s scheduled appearance at TechCrunch’s Disrupt conference, leading to predictions that he may use the opportunity to announce the new smartwatch live on stage.

Ubergizmo’s source claims that Pebble’s new watch will be the company’s first to have a round face, similar to the Moto 360. Pebble’s watches have occasionally come in for criticism due to their angular style; now it seems the company has taken note of these complaints and produced a more aesthetically pleasing device. It’s also reported that the watch will come in two sizes, have a metal finish, and feature a 0.9 inch screen.

Since the rumors of the new watch surfaced, a Pebble insider has hinted on Facebook that it will be priced at $299, which would make it the most expensive in Pebble’s range. If you want to find out what the big reveal will be, then remember to check out Pebble’s website at 10 am PT tomorrow (23 September).
