I'm also looking to upgrade my relic C2Q Q8400!! was thinking of this combo to keep my costs real low but the build current..

8 or 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 Ram

I would look at the i5 8400. Comes with a cooler and if you wait a couple of months you can use the cheaper non Z boards. Tests done by Techspot show the 8400 being real competitive and performing really good for the price. Plus the extra 2 cores and threads will come handy down the road.
