Processor

My mom wants to buy an i3 desktop since its cheaper than i5 and says we can just upgrade to a new i5 processor once we have the money, is this a good idea or just wait till we have the money and buy the desktop with i5? my brother is the one who will use it for graphic stuff he is into special effects.. I hope I can get some idea about this.

You are better off going straight for the I5. Intel change their sockets every few years so when you upgrade, you may need to purchase a new motherboard (more costly) or buy the outdated I5 processor.

If I were planning on upgrading later, I'd go as cheaply as possible initially. That is unless I was also planning to use the extra part for a later build. I'm just saying if you don't have plans for the i3 later, you could save a few bucks and get a Pentium (or dare I say Celeron). Getting the i3 now, may take upgrading later off the table.
