Random FPS Lag in games

I have been experiencing this fps lag that would occur randomly when I play games such as League of Legends and Far Cry 3. The game would run perfectly fine but after a while it will start getting lag spikes and progress to a point where the game actually freezes for a second or 2. In the case of far cry, the performance recovers, in the case of LoL, the performance recovers but the fps still stutters. This never happened a few month back and my computer is quite new (bought in January)

This has been happening recently and I have tried defragging, installing antivirus, and even reformatting the computer but the problem persists. I am deciding to reformat my computer once more but before that I want to get some help from here to see if this is a software/computer setting problem. Othewise, I would suspect it is a hardware problem where my graphic card has been deteriorating.
