Hi recently I have been getting computer freezes and BSOD. which I think its caused by a bad PSU. I about 3 weeks ago I replaced my HD Readon 4670 with a Nvidia 560 TI twin frozer 2. after the upgrade everything was fine and about 3 weeks later the computer locked up while watching a video.

I reinstalled my windows 7 ultimate and also cleaned the dust that was on the CPU heatsinks. After a few hours into the new fresh OS it locked up again. this problem does not happen when I'm playing games.

After the last lock up my computer would turn on with the fans at full speed but i wouldn't be able to see anything on screen and my mouse and keyboard lights were off. So decided to put my HD Readon 4670 that dosent require a x2 6 pins back in the case, the 560 Ti does require a 500 W power supply and 2x 6 pins.

After inistalling the old graphics card the computer turn on and went windows just fine. about 5 minutes a go I got a BSOD which says

I am pretty sure this is caused by my 6 year old PSU (HEC-550TD-PTE 550W +5&+3.3 Combined 185 W)

I really need to find out what is causing this because I cant afford to replace multiple parts. Please Please help me out if you can Thank you.

I have also tested my RAM with windows memory diagnostic and my hard drive with chdk.

System Specs:

6 yr old PSU (HEC-550TD-PTE 550W +5&+3.3 Combined 185 W)

ASUS M4A79XTD EVO Mobo

AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor 3.2

2X 2GB Kingston DDR3 1333 mhz RAM. Hyper X

Maxtor 6L200M0 250 GB

MSI 560 TI Twin Frozer 2 (3 Weeks old and not currently used due to screen not coming on)

Readon HD 4670 (Currently using because computer starts with this card)

No I have not and I don't plan on doing so. Right now the system is running and it hasn't giving me a BSOD or frozen for about 1 hour. I am using my old Graphics card the HD Readon 4670.

right now the system is 5 degrees cooler than before, I think its because my new 560 TI produce quite a bit ambient heat.

I have just found out that the 2x ddr3 kingston rams that i have are not on mother board manual i dont if this can cause the problems that im experiencing. I tried to put the new graphic card back in and i managed to start the system with 1 stick of ram.

the system is no longer starting up with the new graphic card. all the fans and lights start up but nothing on the screen. normally when I turn it on if it successful I hear the cpu fan start slow then go fast if its a good start.

I have no idea, i have been using this graphic card for 3 weeks since I bought it. It was working fine until today when the computer locked up on me again. after i restart the system the fans, lights were on but the mouse keyboard lights were off and there was nothing on the screen the monitor was on blinking idle.

When i changed the graphics card to the old one, the computer came on and i recived 2 BSOD. since then i havent had a single error or anything.

I thought il try again to use the new graphic card, but it had the same result until i removed 1 of the ram sticks. then I turned the system off and added the other ram stick same thing again nothing on the monitor. so put the ram back to a single stick and still nothing came on.

So i switched the graphics card to the old and still nothing came on until I switched the rams to the 3rd and 4th slots.

This is seriously confusing for me and others who are reading this.

If I take this to a computer repair shop it will cost about 50$ just for them to find out what the problem is, then another 60 to 70$ for a new mobo if it is the mobo.

If the mother board is bad then why does it work with my old HD readon graphics card? and why did it use to work with my new graphic card. im going crazy trying to understand what causing the original problem that I had. If i dont recive any freezes or BSOD then I know its the graphics card.

The way you are trying to explain this is confusing. First you say it works with the old video card, then it doesn't until you mess with the memory. Do you understand that you must have the proper video drivers installed for the video card that is currently installed and not the old or other video drivers for the card that is not installed?
