I have on old Maxtor One Touch, Y3N9JEME that I wish to recommission. Q, how do I wipe it clean to suit another computer running on Windows XP and Windows 7

The most popular software for wiping a drive clean to ensure no data recover-ability is DBAN. Otherwise MiniTool Partition wizard is easier to use and also has department of defense grade wiping options. In an enterprise environment, you'd typically do use a triple pass wipe (DoD 5220.22-M) or an extra secure 7 pass (DoD 5220.28-STD). The 7 pass is really not required for most though.
