Samsung Galaxy S8+ Review

Way to take things out of context. I think Tim was very clear on the points made. I'm also pretty sure every iPhone ever made also self destructs just at the thought of being dropped and they still get praised for excellent build quality. Build quality and durability don't necessarily go hand in hand for high tech gadgets.

I also don't think this is an overwhelmingly positive review for Samsung, I think Tim was quite critical of the phone weaknesses and pointed them out where as many other S8 reviews didn't.
That one line alone says lots... I understand many people disagree with the exclusion of the 3.5mm port on the iPhone, but that opinion is irrelevant to a review on this phone and should have been omitted...and yes, I did notice his review was actually critical of the S8.... which made me wonder why he STILL dubbed it the best smartphone ever....

And while I agree that pretty much ANY smartphone has issues when dropped, he admitted in the review that the S8 was the most fragile smartphone around.... and while there is MORE to build quality than durability, it's still an integral part...
Maybe you don't get what a review is because a lot of what you said just makes no sense.

Really? Explain for me then? Did you actually read my critique? What doesn't make sense?
Let's start with this phrase:
That one line alone says lots... I understand many people disagree with the exclusion of the 3.5mm port on the iPhone, but that opinion is irrelevant to a review on this phone and should have been omitted...
The inclusion of the standard 3.5mm audio port on a phone as a differentiating factor is an important distinction that should be included in the review. A review is subjective by nature and thus an opinion on this matter is warranted as well. The language may be inflammatory to some which would be a criticism but the content should not have been omitted.

You don't want opinions in a review and you don't want any bias, might as well just tell us the specs and call it a review.
Also,
I did notice his review was actually critical of the S8.... which made me wonder why he STILL dubbed it the best smartphone ever....
Why can't a phone have issues and still be the best?

3.5mm jack thing isn't even arguable. There's no reason to not include it which is why the article said it's stupid, cause it is. "But its ooooold, REEEEEEEEEEEE"
Just because something is old doesn't mean it should be replaced just on that basis.

Had you bothered to read my critique, I didn't say to omit mentioning the inclusion of a 3.5mm port... I argued that calling any company that excludes that port stupid should be something that is omitted... I understand that reviews are subjective, but a responsible author at least TRIES to seem objective - and including that line shows bias quite blatantly... and unnecessarily so...

Actually, the 3.5mm thing IS arguable... lots of people have argued over it ever since the iPhone 7's exclusion of the port (meanwhile, the iPhone 7 is the world's leading smartphone in sales, so I find it hard to call Apple "stupid" for excluding the port).

A phone can certainly have issues and still be called the best... nothing is perfect.... I said I was SURPRISED it was dubbed the best smartphone despite all the issues the author pointed out....

Again, I have no issues with an author expressing his/her opinions in a piece.... but when giving a review, at least TRY to remain objective...

I read your criticism but your conclusion isn't supported by your position. It's the reviewers opinion that the omission of the port is stupid which means "having or showing a great lack of intelligence or common sense." Asserting that the popularity of the phone by referring to sales (without evidence to support those sales) negates that valid opinion in a review is another weak position.

Objectively the removal of the port offered no added benefit, added complexity, results in most users spending more money, and was ahead of its time since Bluetooth audio quality pales in comparison to the current analog port that was removed. With the reasoning given for the move by Apple ("Courage") you cannot objectively deny the move showed a great lack of intelligence or common sense.

OK.... You can debate as much as you want.... There are those who think that the 3.5mm port is essential, there are those who don't care.... By taking a side in the argument, you show bias - and as a reviewer of something that ISN'T the iPhone, there is no need to be calling Apple out as stupid.... I would understand having that line in an iPhone review, even if I personally disagreed with it.

And you can google iPhone 7 sales... You'll see that they lead all other smartphones - as each iPhone has since the first.... There's a reason Apple is the wealthiest tech company on Earth - and I'd hazard a guess it's NOT because they're stupid....

You are taking this personally for some reason. Tim didn't call Apple out, at least not just Apple. It was a general statement and as I said previously it was also directed at new Android phones that dropped the audio jack as well.

"There are those who think that the 3.5mm port is essential, there are those who don't care"

It's okay not to care, but even if you are of that mindset can you at least understand why it would upset the people who do care, particularly given there isn't a single advantage to removing it. Removing the port in no way benefits those who don't care for it, so as Tim said it's stupid.

This isn't bias - removing the port made the product worse in all appreciable ways:

Bluetooth is not equal in quality to the 3.5mm port

Using the lightning port required an adapter or new headphones. Those new headphones will no longer be compatible for the millions of other devices who have used that port for decades.

The reasons Apple provided behind the elimination of the port were not sufficient enough to justify its removal hence the description of stupid is apt. The bias is you becoming so upset about it or the people taking it on blind faith that the removal will pay off in future models.

If any Android user wants to dumb their smartphone, there are several ways to do it. Google Playstore has several iPhone Launchers, free to use.

There is nothing personal here... simply more and more astonished that no one else sees the inherent flaw in calling a company stupid in a review for a DIFFERENT COMPANY'S smartphone... And while I can admit that omitting the 3.5mm port may be user-unfriendly, I disagree with it being called "Stupid".... Apple might make incorrect, "mean", or otherwise unfriendly decisions, but very rarely are they stupid. Sales of iPhones have not been affected in any way by the omission of the port, nor are they including it in their new iphone.... I'd have no problem with the article being amended to "other companies making user-unfriendly decisions".... but "stupid".... sorry... that just shows unnecessary bias - even if none is intended.
