My Maxtor 250gb SATA HDD is not being recognised at its true size

When i come to intall my OS it says it is only about 130gb. Once instaled operating system and on windows it still appears the same size. Formating does not appear to cure this problem.

I relise that most HDDs dont actualy appear to be at their marketed size - i would be happy with 230gb but not 130gb.

Whats up?

im sure i saw a fix for this somewhere i just cant remember where it was.

Thanx for any help

Ya there was a definite issue with the detection of any HDD over the size limit of 130 gigs in SP1. Make sure that you update to service pack 2 at least or just partion the drive so you have 130gig system storage and the reset can be all data storage.

if you already have sp2 then make sure you have the latest bios for your mobo because i think that can limit hdd sizes

then again someone else might have a better idea ;)
