I'm on a low budget, need a quad core, and am planning on getting a discrete graphics card. Am I mistaken in the CPU part of these two looking nearly exactly the same?

If you are getting a discrete GPU, save the money and get the 1200. The only advantage getting the 2200G is having it's iGPU as a backup. I also remember Techspot's recent review showing the standard Ryzens having a slight performance advantage with discrete GPU over the APU using the same GPU.

If your on a budget and not gaming. then get the 2200g. you dont have to purchase a separate video card when you buy the 1200. if you do decide to game, the 2200g will give you good 720p and 900p performance.

I would buy the 2200g its better overall than the 1200 (slightly faster clocks and more overclockable) AND you get a FREE fairly capable IGPU for free. You DO have to buy a discrete gfx card with the 1200 , no display otherwise??
You might find the igpu is all you need ...
