A recent study from the Pew Research Center found that six percent of adult Internet users in the U.S. use Reddit. It’s still a far cry from the 67 percent of adults that use Facebook but is on par with other destinations like Tumblr. For comparison, social networks like Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest are all used by roughly 15 percent of Americans.

Broken down on a further level, Reddit is more popular with men than women – probably not a surprising metric. Around 15 percent of males between the age of 18 and 29 visit the site compared to just five percent of women in the same age range. Individuals over the age of 50 show very little interest in the site, Pew noted. What’s more, the site is more popular among urban and suburban residents than those living in rural areas.

Individual statistics aside, Reddit usage is certainly on the rise. If you recall, the site celebrated its eighth birthday last month and now boasts more than 70 million unique visitors per month from more than 183 countries across the globe. As of the beginning of this month, there were 5,360 active communities with around 19.8 million votes having been cast.

In the off chance that you aren’t familiar, Reddit is a bulletin board of user-submitted photos, text, links and videos that are voted upon based on interest. The site contains thousands of sub-communities covering virtually every topic under the sun. If you can dream it, it's probably on Reddit.
