In context: If you are ready for a glimpse of upcoming PS5 games, your wait might be over next week. Barring a scheduling SNAFU, Sony could be holding its first official games reveal for its next-gen console. Get ready for the hype to commence in full.

Sony might be ready to unveil some upcoming PlayStation 5 games as early as next Wednesday anonymous sources with knowledge of the event told Bloomberg. Like many other presentations we have seen, particularly during the Summer Game Fest season, it will be an online affair.

As for now, Sony's PlayStation 5 showcase is scheduled for June 3. However, the insiders indicated that organizers already shuffled the event around several times, so that date might change between now and then. They also mentioned that it is just one of many shows that Sony has lined up as we approach the PS5 launch this holiday season.

When asked for confirmation, a Sony spokesperson unsurprisingly declined to comment, and the presentation is not listed on the Summer Game Fest calendar of events.

Unlike Microsoft, which has shown quite a few upcoming titles for the Xbox Series X, Sony has been relatively quiet regarding the PS5. A couple of weeks ago, Epic Games revealed a tech demo running on a PS5 dev kit that both stunned and stirred up some controversy. However, other than that and a PlayStation State of Play focusing solely on Ghost of Tsushima (which is actually a PS4 title), Sony has not revealed much content to fuel the hype train.

It's an unusual marketing strategy as the companies usually like to one-up each other and trade barbs as the consoles approach launch day. Sony has held off going blow for blow with the Redmond tech giant so far, but if the source's claims are valid, it could be getting ready to open the flood gates or at least line up a series of punches.

At first Microsoft were doing everything right and it seemed Sony's silence was a mistake, but since that garbage Xbox gameplay reveal it only helped Sony. Made people hungry for Sony news after just passing on Microsoft's meh fest.

Feels like it played into their hands a bit, now they just need knock all the actual game reveals out of the park with a bunch of PS5 next gen only exclusive gameplay. Then they'll have no problem selling the hardware later this year, no matter if it looks like a trash can.

Wait: Is that the console ?

They are talking all this jazz about the "gameplay".

Is that picture up there the actual PS5?
Heh. No. That is an artist's rendering. I credited him at the bottom of the article. He took the controller design and just kinda ran with it to come up with a matching console.

If Sony need to take more time to make sure they actually have something to show off, I'm all for it. Microsoft's "gameplay" reveal has actually really hit their reputation a bit.

I find it very hard to raise excitement for the PS5. This whole generation has been dominated by overt, ever aggressive monetization, bugs, massive patches, and to top it off the PS4's exclusive game was WEAK. Many series never saw a title (motorstorm, resistance), those that did were often disappointing (infamous, ratchet and clank, wipeout, killzone) or were turned into hairy dad games (god of war, uncharted) and the less said of TLOU2 the better.

Sure, there were some good games like spiderman and horizon (even if horizon had early 2000s bioware soulless eye syndrome and clunky writing) but those hardly justify a console. The PS2 and PS3 had large, varied, colorful libraries of exclusives from Sony.

I have no doubt the PS5 will be worse in this regard, Sony doesnt seem to have much direction in the game development department these days, and so many of their good studios are either third party developers now or have been shut down over the last 20 years.
